Well, it doesn't say that it's NASA or SCCA approved, only NHRA and IHRA, which means you can use it for drag racing but not road racing.

Also, from the price and the description of "extra material" I think you have to do all your own welding.

Which is just a bar. It did stiffen up the chassis a bit, it protects my head, and gives me a secure place to attach a harness. If you have automatic belts, the installation is a pain in the ***, you have to take the interior panels off, put the bar in the car but not bolt it down, slip the panels back in place, and then bolt it down.

The name says bolt-in, but the text mentions the u-weld model, something might be weird with the website.

I can't vouch for the RX-7 cage, but I helped install one in my friend's Honda Challenge car, and it fit pretty well. That was a stripped race car of course, though it's designed to fit witha full interior. He ended up getting a custom cage made instead, which is what I'd recommend anyway if you're building a race car.

i'm sure if you are a good welder it is a nice kit.

 

the welding isnt the problem. the me not having a mandrel bender a ton of steel piping, etc. is the problem. plus it at least gets it to a good starting point where i can make it fit.

SCCA really isnt a huge selling point for large scale places as its considered "amatur level" (especially ones that do mostly drag racing), but ill look up in my solo 1 rulebook and see what the requirements for roll cages are. IIRC, the jegs cage should be fine.

 

i'm pretty sure it is a mandrel bent weld together kit, i seriously doubt they would just sell a bunch of straight tubing and a couple flanges and call it a roll cage kit.

i've been looking at this thing too. if i do get this kit + hire a welder, do they need any kind of certifications so that it will pass inspections etc.? or do i need it inspected or what? i'd like to do some SCCA racing, but want all the stuff to be legal. interior is no problem since i have most of it removed anyways.

 

yeah its cheap but its not something i would buy without fab skills. you still have to notch the tubing so you will need a mill or spend a lot of time on a bench grinder plus as mentioned welding. its still good for semi equipped shops but if you have a mill then you should have access to a bender and tube stock

 

You might want to try SWRacecars. I have one, they are not bad.
They are pre bent 2 kinds in front of dash and thru dash.
I have in front of dash,but if I were to do it again I would opt
for the thru dash.

IMHO for a cage it's custom or nothing. The Jegs cage might be an ok starting point, but it won't fit like a true custom one, so there's going to be big gaps in places like at the A pilliars and B pilliars, because every car is a little different, the bends they make aren't going to be perfect (wrong angles). The FC doesn't have lots of room to spare, so either get something that's actually designed for the FC, like the Autopower cage, or get the local ccage builder to build one for you, you'll get a better product in the end.

 

If you guys want anything that SCCA legal the tubing now needs to be DOM or Drawn Over Mandrel. You can't use ERW or seam welding tubing anymore. There are also tubing size requirements. For the same strength, DOM is thinner than ERW. The thickness in the description of the Jeg's cage leads me to believe it's ERW. Tubing size requirements for an RX-7 could be any of the following:

1.500 x .120
1.625 x .120
1.750 x .095

 

Im in the store for a rollcage too... I went to couple performance shops one charges 1500 for basic 6 point and the other 950 for a basic 6 point (chrmoly) but so far im going with this one
