Can I ask why you would want one on your hood? Did you run out of space on your dash or A pillar or just needed a spot were it was clearly visible.
Also arent you worried about someone just ripping it off?

We have the fuel gauges outside in our drag car. I would not recommend it for your daily driven car. Unless you want to buy a new one everyday. IT WILL GET STOLEN... Not to mention it will damage your hood and make your car look butt ugly... Get a gauge pod at your local speedshop is my advice.
What is the reason for mounting gauge or gauges on the hood?
Did you see a 1969 GTO with a tach mounted on the hood (factory option)?
Sure as hell won't give you more horsepower mounting it outside or did you just see a Honda with gauges mounted on the hood?
1. It will get ripped off and damage your hood
2. It looks CHEESY as hell
3. No sense at all for reason to
Get an electrical gauge and mounted inside.

For anyone asking "why would you want to mount a gauge on your hood?", you are aware of the dangers of mounting certain mechanical gauges ( like fuel pressure perhaps? ) inside the cockpit, arent you?
Geez...You people can be harsh sometimes. If you dont have a hood mounted gauge, then why are you all posting here? Its his car, let him do what he wants.

BTW, Summit sells mechanical FP gauges for $41 ( Autometer Z-Series, 2 1/16in, 0-100psi ) and $180 for their electrical ones.
A lot of people are building their cars on a tight budget and IMHO $140 can go a long way if you know what youre doing.

Well... all of you who just posted to be complete jerks... didnt your mammas ever tell you if you didnt have anything nice to say, then dont say it at all?
For those who posted some useful advise... Thank you
adamlewis is correct... is it a mechanical fuel pressure gauge. For those wondering why I didnt get an electric one is because it costs more than a HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS MORE THAN THE MECHANICAL ONE!
The reason for the hood mount is because Im carberated and boosted so I need to watch the fuel pressure AS the boost increase.
I am aware that people would want to steal it which is why I was wonder if anyone else had one that they could advise me on how to cover it... Ill probably end up recessing it into the hood and covering it with aluminum sheeting and fibreglas and mold it into the hood.
For those that say its going to ruin the looks of the car... fine! I dont really want to put it on the hood because it will be the only exterior "mod" that I have done to my car and I think it will look kinda stupid but its something I need to monitor, so if you dont have an idea or a picture of someone with a custom mounted one then please dont post in here...
Thank you

OK, check this out... My best advise is to get a fuel pressure gauge with an electrical sending unit and mount it inside. Like I said our drag car has two fuel press gauges on the outside but again it is a drag car. My car is Turbo/Carb and the only fuel gauge I have is iside the engine compartment (Under the hood) and I don't even mess with it. Spend a few extra bucks and be safe... If that gauge gets ripped off your car you won't even be able to get home. I also recommend you to get an EGT gauge that way you can tell if the car is running lean or not after each hard run. PM me for details if you want... Just here to help.
just make a temp mount on the hood. stick the gauge on. see what the pressure does. then mount the gauge under the hood. the pressure is not gona change. no need to keep looking at it. you can mount it back up once a month or so if you're worred about it.
that's what one of my friends does. he just sticks the gauge back up if he's tuning / testing etc.

If someone rips a fuel gauge off of your hood, the fuel is going to likely dump all over your hood and engine. Not a lot of fun.
If you must mount the gauge on the outside, do it with a cowl induction style hood. That will keep the gauges from exposure, but still in your view.

I might understand mounting fuel pressure and oil pressure gauges on your hood, beacuse of the smell, but why on a street car would you want a hood mounted gauge, there we go with rice all over again. You dont need a tach outside your car, THERES a good one built in the dash. Only gauge anyone would ever need is a FPS, Temp, A/F gauge thats the only gauges anyone would ever need all the others are built in, so save your self some trouble buy a gauge pillar put in a few needed gauges and then youll be much happier. And i need to ask why do you want a gauge on your hood it isnt the 70's and an RX-7 (FC) anyway isnt a muscle car.
For the love of god people, it doesn't hurt the lines of the car that badly...

The bomex front end kills the lines more than the gauge does!
Pic's are of Ben Marr's TII, BTW.
