Tinted windows="cooler" in car temps?
Ok so my a/c isnt working too good right now, hasnt really worked all year, so I was contimplating removing it. But some days its really hot outside. My question is if I tint my windows, will my in-car temps be any lower, or is it just a myth?

i've always wanted to get my windows tinted, but i never really liked tinted windows... if that makes any sense
I never had an A/c system in my Fc, so when i park i usually crack the windows about an inch or so. That way when i get inside it's not SUPER DUPER hot. anyways, yes tinted windows will keep the inside of the car cooler when parked for a long time say : at the mall with your wife while she try's on new bra's!! lol

P.S... I've heard the back window alone on our FC's can cost nearly 50$ because of the size and curves....

Ya the most on paying for tinting is like $150. Do I need to go hella dark for it to work though? I dont want to go illegal, well not too illegal, i have enough problems as it is.

Yes, you can actually feel the heat on your face drop as you raise a tinted window.
Also I had a window broken once & the tint film held it together until I could get a replacement.

If you want to make it REALLY easy to do, remove the windows. Just remove the mirror...3 screws, take off the 9 screws holding the door panel and take that off. If you have the window rolled up midway you can now unbolt the window 2 bolts. Take window indoors, clean it, and tint it.

i hate that tinting the side windows is illegal in california. wtf? this state blows...cops will pull you over for that too. cop pulled over my friend and gave him a razor blade and told him to scrape off his tint. anywho...makes me think about getting only the rear tinted.

tinting works
Tinting definitely works. I just did mine with the ultra high quality stuff (quantum, 100% metallic), and it makes a huge difference. WHen the car sits in the sun for a while, it still gets pretty hot. The big difference is when you turn on the AC and get moving. With tinted windows you can run the AC at half the level you would with normal windows and stay even cooler.
Damn, that cop was harsh. I think the secret is to get a tint that looks factory (not too dark), so that if they do pull you over, you can tell him that it came standard with the car.
My tint reflects heat by about 65%, but you can still see inside the car...so it doesn't look to dark and does not attract cops.
Make sure you don't get a hack job. I paid $400 to do all 4 windows on my FC. Not cheap, but a damn good job. Worth every dollar and is guaranteed not to bubble.

would any of you guys get the 'sun strip' that goes along the top of the front windscreen? acctually didnt our Fc's come with that as an option? just curious, cause i know you cant tint the front windshild all the way... but maybe do the side windows nice and dark as well as the front. than a nice sun strip on the top of the front windscreen.

Yes window tinting makes a huge difference. Here in West TX we are closer to the sun than those up north and it gets hot and dry. You can tell a 15-20 degree decrease after have a good quality tint applied. I'm talking 105-110 degrees vs 125 degrees after your car has been sitting outside in the sun. It'll keep your interior from fading as fast also and yes you can still see just fine at night if you stay with legal tint.

Ok, Im almost convinced about removing my a/c system, and BAC valve since I wont need it anymore, not that it really works anyway. Hell Ive made it half-way into July without it working, so I guess a tint job could help some, and I could take 50lbs off of my car too.

What's wrong with it? It may just need a recharge.

Don't forget that for proper comfort, dehumidification is just as important as lowering air temps. A/C does that very well, whereas tints won't do a thing. You might still miss your A/C on those hot, sticky days.

IN my Meteorology class (i'm minoring in meteorology) i researched a study done by the science dept at Ol'Miss, and the conclusions stated that the glass and the amount of sunlight that got through was the single biggest difference in the interior temps of the car. secondly was the interior color of the car, and last was the exterior color. Darker interiors with tint stayed the coolest
I would recommend a metal flake tint, a bit more money but far more comfortable and very durable. Graphite impregnated tint isn't bad at all either. 35% isn't crazy dark, should do the job, and keep you within legal limits in just about every state.

I like to fix the broken things on my car, instead of just removing them.
I think I'll tint my windows first, then see if I care bare going without a/c, but then again I want remove all of that weight and simplify my engine bay.

Boy, the kind of comments that pop out sometimes...
The easiest way to check is to run around with a baking thermometer in the car.  I used to run one in my vents, because it was cheap to monitor my AC condition.
The tint would usually drop an easy 10F-20F.  Front sunshade dropped another 40F-50F (90F-100F from 140F-150F)!  Probably more due to the direct sunlight to the dash...
I used to run super dark 5% "limo tint", and that dropped another 10F-20F over the street-legal 35% stuff here in Hawaii.
