Anyone Have Gauges in the Centre Vent?
I know this has been done, was wondering if anyone has pics of gauges mounted where the centre vent would be.
I don't drive my car in the winter, and my AC is removed, but having some heat when it gets chilly is nice sometimes.
How is the airflow into the car.
Thanks - Pics would be great

Very Nice. What would be the best way to do it?
Maybe just a cardboard template and then trace it on to the real thing?
I was thinking of making mine of fibreglass, more forgiving that way, unlike lexan if you crack it cutting =)

I have my A/F gauge located in the drivers side center vent. I have not noticed any negative effects in the cold weather. All I did was remove the vent, and cut a panel of lexan to fit in the opening. I then cut the gauge hole, and painted the rear of the Lexan black. It actually looked quite good, because I took the time to carefully trim everything and make the finish look factory.
However, I am now in the mindset where I want the interior of the car to look as stock as possible, so I will be replacing the hacked center vents with an unmolested unit and relocating the gauge somewhere else, probably at the corner of the windshield on the drivers side.

I didn't put any gauges there (mine are above the ashtray), but I can vouch for the lexan being a good mounting medium- easy to cut & drill (it won't crack very easily), easy to paint. Flat black enamel works well...

...94% correct.
Would anyone be interested in a eurethane replacement that replaces the stock radio surround, shifter surround, and has provisions for two or three 2 1/8" guages along the pass side (facing driver)? The pod extends back over the side of the dash so that the mounting surface seems to curve kinna gracefully off the radio/vent surround, and it stocks the three guages vertically.
...hold on to something...I'm making a VERY rough pic...

Here's a pic of my setup, its been this way for about 6 months now. When i first decided to do it i wanted to totally remove the feed for the centre vent. Once i got round to actually doing it i realized that it would be a right bitch to totally remove so i just blocked it off instead. I never used the vents anyway and always had it set to the footwell/windscreen position, i find this setting keeps the whole car at a nice temp be it hot or cold. i dont think it would cause any problems if i still wanted to use the left and right vent as the centre console gets pretty hot already from the cd player and equaliser.

Cheers I found a piece of plastic that was the right thickness and had the right curve then cut it to size and glued it in. i used a type of filler to smooth all the gaps then covered the whole thing in black suede. Here's a pic of the filler going on..

this is in my 89 convertable a center piece i made for my APEXI AVC-R & S-AFC i relocated the logicon (electronic climate control ) to the glove box and i built the center piece to be directed towards me in the drivers seat to be able to see it easier at a glance and like someone quoted earlier i usually use floor or defrost for my source of heat and even with the top down here in the cold nights i still stay warm
also i made an extra piece of velvet with velcro to go over the 2 pieces to hide em when i park the car as seen in pic3
PS boy did i just realize just how bad i need to dust and clean the inside of my car lol man it sticks out like a sore thumb in these pics lol
