anyone have a compression tester i can use?

anyone in louisville ky have a compression tester?
i was thinking about renting/borrowing one, but where can i get one?
i was thinking about checking my compression even though the motor feels pretty strong... you never know. any places other than the mazda dealer to get one?

You can do it with a regular tester . First you remove the shrader valve. take out both leading plugs. put the tester in one hole. have someone crank the starter while you watch the action of the gage and listen to the sound of the other rotor with out the plug. Then swap the gage to the other hole and repeat. this is not the best but works well for those who know what they are doing. The proper mazda tester is very high dollar. The dealers do not all have them.

He was close. The schrader valve is a small valve at the base of the guage, like a tire stem valve. Just unscrew it. Remember when cranking to hold the throttle all the way down, and to also pull the EGI fuse. I dont know if you have "AutoZones" there, but a tester should only be $30 or so. Look for 3 even bounces, above 95 or so indcates a healthy motor. PM Kevin Landers, he should be able to give you a more specific PSI to be looking for when testing.
