Question Anyone Grind out exhaust diffusers for N/A porting?

I was curious if anyone has grinded the exhaust diffusers out to street port the exhaust on the NON-turbo rotor housing. You can see what I mean the housing on the left shows the N/A with the diffuser vs. the Turbo housing without it.

More info:
http://www.mazdatrix.com/engsp6p.htm

Mazdatrix FAQ says to use Turbo housings, but I dont really want to spend months looking for a good one. My question is to those who HAVE done this, what tools did you use and how hard was it. Thanks

I don't have sleeves at all.

I'd like to find turbo ones.
I beleive they can be just pressed/hammered into place.

Anyone have any TII sleeves??

I would just grind them out.
I'd use a dremel with a cutting wheel and just make a bunch of cuts to get it out, then grind the remainder smooth. It is hard metal though.

I also use FD rotorhousings on my 6-port vert. I was going to use grind out the originals...but, I wanted total reliablity..so, I bought new ones.

They are grindable...just takes ALOT of time to do. Just buy or look for FC T2 or FC housings.

I'm having the same issue to deal with in the next week ( I'm headed out to pick up my engine as soon as a reliable car gets here )

The "sleeves" just held in by pins ( mine are drilled out )A friend at a machine shop says that he can get the diffuser out one way or another... I guess we'll just have to see.

Car has arrived... I'm on my way.

I got the sleeves to drill out on the 86-88 housings, but apparently the 89-91 Dowell pins that hold the sleeve in are tougher material as I broke several bits trying to do this.

This is why I asked if it's possible to grind out the middle or if anyone's actually done it and with what.

How did you "get rid" of your sleeves? What did you use to drill the dowell pins out? I snapped several bits trying to with a hand drill.

Liquid Anarchy, let me know how you do yours, I'll be interested

I didn't dissassemble the engine. That's the only thing on my car I didn't do myself. I pulled it out, stripped it, then had a guy here in Ontario rebuild it, and he subcontracted a shop here to do the port job.
They pulled the whole sleeves out- which would NOT have been my first choice.
So, I can't tell you exactly how they did it, but I'm sure professional grade tools don't break so easily...

If I can find some TII ones, I can just fit them in with devcon or something...

They are pressed and pinned in. You can put TII sleeves NA housings.

Remove the sleeves by drilling out the pins and port the MF all the way!!! Do not use the sleeves at all, performance mechanics here have not used those things for the longest time!!!!. Remove them, port and presto!!!! Take my advice... We removed the sleeves from my cousin's gsl-se and ported the f&%# out of the exhaust, racing beat intake manifold, holley 650cfm, drove it to the track and 13:32 on street tires (A daily driven car). My n/a turbo converted has no sleeves and you can stick the 3 middle fingers inside easily (Yes that big) Mine is ported up to where the sleeve used to be. This picture from the Mazdatrix exhaust porting page is a wimpy thing compared to what we do here in the island.

I've done it. Don't bother trying to remove them.

grind down the sides of them from the outside to the inside. Then when the metal is thin enough just chisel it out. Don't bother with a dremel. Make sure you have an air die grinder. You'll need to use a carbide bit. Nothing else will touch it.
