Anyone convert their interior lights to LEDs?

If so, how did it turn out? Have pics? Or is it better to go with the gauges you see on ebay?

Yeah would like to see that. I'm thinking about ordering new ones for the gauge and for the heater control. I haven't cracked that thing open before so I don't know for sure you can replace them. My few of my heater control lights don't light up, and the lights for the sliders don't light up unless certain buttons are pushed and the slider is in a certain spot haha. Gotta love these cars...

Are you trying to change the colors, or just have leds for a lightsource?

Um... well I'm probobly going to switch my gauge to the set up on ebay, white w/ blue letters and led background stuff. I want it blue, and bright. Then I wanna replace the lights in the Logicon, and I'll just order those in LEDs. I'm curious as to what the door panels will look like. Trunk light (or hatch light to the less fortunate) and dome light. Glove box... cig lighter, and maybe set something up like the Mazda 626 floor lights. Nothing riced though, ugh lol.

GA

ive done this and i changed everything to white... the gauge cluster is different to do if you want to change the color... u have to take the cluster compleatly apart on the back of the gauge faces there is a layer of orange that u have to take off i used nail pollish remover the orange on the back is all u can take off cause on the frront of the gauge face the numbers and markings are printed in orange also and there is really no way to remove it without really messing it up if ur doin white it look pretty good the cluster also has lights that shines on the front using clear plastic to redirect the light changing those makes the biggest differnce... now on the locicon it has to be compleaty taken apart also wich is a pain in the *** it also has a layer of orange inside of it soooo if u wanna do this it is a real job but i think its worth it for the looks and to relive some strain on ur already strained electacal system...

I thought of doing the led conversion of all the lights in my FC.
since there isnt much lights in my car.
managed to do the interior lights.
(will post pic soon)

and then i tried to do the LEXUS license plate led lighting.
put two led lights in the license plate lights in the s5 bulb socket.
looked beatiful, loved it. looked sexy.

then about a week i notice it has burnt the tail light plastic and made a crack...
i guess it was emitting too much heat? i dunno. but it did burn the plastic.
luckily i ruined my s5 tail light today. by rear ending with my gargage.
i will be changing them as soon as i win the bin on ebay...fml
...FML...

LED's Generate next to no heat compared to regular bulbs, If you truely used LED's there should be no heat coming from the light.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Not to sound like a jerk but it sounds like something got messed up. And Andy, I'm not talking about using the factory cluster. I'm talking about getting the gauges replaced with that kit that is on ebay. I saw a couple 7's with it and it didn't look like garbage (like most of ebay stuff) so I figured I would try it. The Logicon won't be an issue (I have a 2nd one that I'll do it on). Will post pics

+1 I converted my interior

Used the 4-LED lights for turn signals (green) and cluster (white).
Used single led's for the door panels (white) and the map lights (amber - it provides just enough light to read things w/o screwing up your night vision and kinda looks like "alert mode" lol) .
Used the 4-LED festune bulb for the dome light it is BRIGHT. The hatch light is unfortunately some odd size that's difficult to find in LED. If you bend the tabs you might be able to fit the festune bulb from the dome light, but I ended up getting an LED panel from autozone that came w/ a variety of festune adapters.

Depends on the wattage of the LED. I was installing some 3W LED's this week; they operate too hot to keep your hand on.

LED's do produce heat, and typically must be mounted to some form of heat sink or they will experience premature failure.

Look in the 3rd gen section for the thread by gmonson (his car is quite remarkable, so worth seeing anyway).

This is true. Even a REAL 1w LED run at a constant 13.5v will exceed 100*F. Everything from Superbrightleds and v-leds and whatnot are chinese junk and typically don't last. And if they do last longer than a few months the output of them is terrible compared to a quality LED like Philips, Cree, etc.

$80-90 HOWEVER, I bought way more than I needed, prolly enough to do two cars, because I wanted to try different bulb types in different locations. I also bough some exterior LED's which were the most expensive ones, and interestingly the worst. DO NOT BY EXTERIOR LED's.

I don't have any decent pics ATM but I might take some a little later. The dome light is AWSOME! superbright (pun intended). The lights look awsome, and run cooler than the incandescents they replaced. I have had them from 5-6 months and they are holding up just fine.

My friend has a MKIII Supra and there is a guy on his forum with a RIDICULOUS LED conversion (literally everything has been converted and/or added) He went through all the work of soldering in resistors and doing a bunch of extra work for nothing. SuperbrightLED's work just fine and are much easier to replace IF one should go out.

Well all I'm looking for (for now) are my gauges, dome light, and maybe some lights that go under the dash that light up when you open the door. My mom's 88 626 does it. I want my 88 to do it too lol.
