Question Any tips to pass emission???

i finally got my turbo 2 to run. I took the emission test today; unfortunately, the car failed. The car has a jdm engine (didn't touch the engine for about 2 years), Apexi n1 exhause, and magnaflow cat. What do you guys think led to failing? Any useful advice to pass the test?

Idle emissions for HC (PPM) was at 485, and CO (%) at 2.89

Your thoughts might be helpful

Oh boy! the rx7 has so much more potential than my sluggish ex-Honda civic si.

well the car is almost 20 years old... thats the first thing, do they even jave emissions in Washington State i thought they didnt. but i would imagine you would have to get new emissons parts and probably a different cat. i really dont know much about emissons cause all of my emisson control has been rermoved

I'm surprised you haven't been flamed for this question. Go to the FAQ thread in this forum and read up on possible causes and a sure fire way to pass.

I bet the car wasn't hot when it went through the test...
Else, do a "tune up" - change spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil change.

Firstly I doubt the guy is going to drive 3 days across the country to get you "buddy" to do an illegal etest on his car..not to mention ITS IN ONTARIO he would need an etest from his county/state......seesh......perpetuating these underground testers - ESPECIALLY ON THE NET - isn't the smartest thing to do.

A fresh cat will help by leaps and bounds too.....every 7 I've had tested has had its new cat put on and then went straight down for sniffing....never had a problem (crossing fingers)

How much would a new cat cost? I failed my emissions I was going to try to run 87 octane and i adjusted the tps after the emissions and the car runs better now the tps was way out of wack when i went to do emissions the first time I just need it to pass this year because in when i have to do emissions again in 2 years it will be a 20 year old car therefore being void from emissions

well if you haven't done a tune-up....go with that. you can find cats on ebay for like 120 bucks. Finally, advance your timing by alot just for the etest, and once you pass adjust it back to specs. that's how i passed mine washington state.

Tuneup first, then check the FAQ as there are instructions for a method that you can use if nothing else works.
