any mechanisms within the oil cooler (not the thermostat)

I got my second oil cooler back from having it cleaned. It has no thermostat, spring fittings etc installed, its totally bare.

When I shake it side to side I can here what sounds to me like a ball valve.

Does anyone know if there is such a device within the stock coolers?

Anyone have a bare dry cooler that they wouldn't mind shaking?

I would hate to install this thing and find out it had some metal trash in it.

Thanks..

Just went out to the garage and shook my stock s4 UNCLEANED oil cooler.

I sounds like sand was inside. Maybe it is sand on the outside of the cooler.
It definetly didn't sound like a metal ball or anything like that. I just took it off 3 days ago.

It could be old dried oil rolled in a ball. I've read about people cleaning their cooler and small chunks of dried something come out. Hope this helps.

You may try taking it back and ask what they did and there advice or call a radiator shop.

It is probably normal to hear metal rattling around in a stock oil cooler, I just when an cut the end tank of the oil cooler in question.

There are loose aluminum strips in the cooling tubes, which could in no way come loose and damage the engine (not that they would as the oil filter is the very next stop for the oil.)

and I am only out about 20$ for the cleaning, as I have another spare cooller
