Anti-Lag, How Retarded?
How much do i need to retard my timing for anti-lag to work correctly? I'm plannin on setting the rpm rev limiter to about 4500 rpm if that makes any difference. This would be for the occasional all out drag race, not a all the time kinda deal. I know this is very hard on a turbo. Thanks.

Launching, very helpful link. I knew that post existed but i couldnt find it for the life of me when i was at work. Thanks. All my dsm friends do anti-lag and its very interesing Anybody actually have experience doing it? As for killing the turbo, as much as it will actually be happening i'm ok with replacing this stock turbo in the next 6 months.

If just setting up anti-lag for a drag launch you may not even have to set up the anti-lag option.
If the rev-limiter is ignition based (option on Haltech) you can set up a 2 stage rev-limiter and when you are up against the initial rev-limit it will produce some extended manifold burn.
If that isn't enough boost for you or you want it to stay spooled between shifts then go on to anti-lag option.
And if that doesn't do enough you can plumb your BOV back into the turbo exhaust manifold and get LOTS of boost w/ the throttle plates closed!

In a true dedicated race style anti-lag system there is an air valve tapped into the exhaust manifold so that air AND fuel are supplied to the turbo exhaust to turn it into a true turbine engine driving the turbo compressor section into making boost.
It is very convienient to use the BOV and high temp plumbing to provide air to the turbo exhaust manifold. The first time you rev and then close the throttle plates the BOV vents air to the exhaust and fuel is provided by an anti-lag setting in the engine computer or an add on anti-lag system. You will have boost w/ throttle open or closed after that, but there needs to be a way to regulate fuel or the turbo WILL overspeed/overheat.
There were some detailed pics and a bit of sketchy info on this style anti-lag in a "performance Ford" (cool European Fords, so it is OK to read) magazine a couple months ago on a AWD turbo Escort Cosworth. They called it the "EGR system". Yeah, tell the smog guy you know your EGR is working since you have boost at idle and a cone of fire out the tailpipe :P
