antenna help

The antenna on my 88 RX won't go up, when you press the button, you can hear it trying to go up but it doesn't, im thinking its probably the gears, like their broken. I'm assuming that i need to get a new antenna, do any of you know where i can get one besides ebay.
thanx

If you find that you need a new antenna you can find one here About $30 for that one. You could also try posting in the 2nd generation parts section. Someone is bound to be parting out a car and has one in good condition.

Or, if you think automatic antennas are a pain in the *** more than they are worth, you can go the route I did and get a high-gain antenna (looks like a slightly larger cellphone whip with the little coil in the middle) like they use on aircraft. Pop that sucker in the same place (make sure you don't ground the antenna, just the mount!) and you'll get way better reception. Of course, I've got a 'vert so I don't have to worry about automatic car washes and don't speak for that environment.

over time the antenna mask breaks preventing the antenna from raising. After replacment, put some white lithium grease on it from time to time.

Go to Mazdatrix.com and look in their FAQ section and it tells you how to fix the mast. They sell the part also,.

If you mast isn't broken, use the mazdatrix link to show you how to take it out, then open it up and look at the gears and the teeth on the mast. It may just be loose in which you can't just rewind it and you'll be set. Otherwise, pick up a mast, they're dirt cheap.

Personally, I tossed the power antenna and just put a 7 dollar cheapo antenna on it. I usually listen to CDs anyway.

I noticed that!!!!!! But I've got just enough sense to know if someone looked at my posts they'd find gobs of spelling errors, grammatical errors, syntax errors, just errors upon errors.

One of the members sig lines sum's it all up - spelling here is like wearing a dinner jacket to a crack house - WHY?

Anyway to remain on topic, I bought a mast from a ebay vendor for 10.00 and it worked very well.

And while we're here....I bought one of the masts from http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/86-92ant.htm and that was three years ago. Never installed it. Someday though, someday.......
