Answer This And Get Me To Shut Up!
Answer This And Get Me To Shut Up!
Ok, I know I keep asking a lot of questions that are generally based around the same types of upgrade setups, but I don't seem to be getting the kind of response that I want, so I decided to make this as simple as possible. Please post your suggestions so I can know what to do regaurding my upgrades.
I have an A'pexi intake, and i'm getting a 2.5" Bonez DP and high flow cat. This will be the order of the installed things so far, but i'm not sure about a few things.
1. Boost Gauge - Done
2. A'pexi intake - Done
3. Ported Wastegate - Not Done
4. 2.5" Bonez Kit - Not Done
5. MBC (Installed along with #4)
5. Fuel Mods
First of all, would I see any problems with this setup? Also, I already have an FCD in case that was a concern. My main question is if I can have this setup going fine and keep the boost at the lowest possible with the MBC until I upgrade the fuel system, while having a safe setup.
Another thing is should I go with the FD fuel pump, or the Walbro. Whats the difference in price/quality/performance, and if I do install fuel stuff last, what kinds of things should I be doing?
If I installed a new fuel pump AFTER those mods, would I immediately need something like a S-AFC to control it? Also what about bigger injectors?
If you guys can successfully shoot down those questions, I wont have to keep making these n00bish posts here, lol. Sorry about all the posts, but i'd sort of like to NOT destroy my first car, heh.
Thanks again for all the help.

I would go with the upgraded fuel pump and fuel mods before the MBC. The MBC cannot lower boost levels, it can only raise it. You cannot control how low your boost will be with a MBC. Only the wastegate can hold your boost at a certain level. Hold off on the MBC until you get a fuel pump at least or do a rewire.
With an upgraded fuel pump I don't think you will need an SAFC but it would not hurt. I would get larger injectors and an SAFC at the same time and dyno tune them.
As long as you dont floor it you will not boost spike with those mods.

Well I meant like have an MBC, but not turn it up at all, I know it can't be lowered. So your saying I should do the fuel mods after the exhaust stuff is put on, but should I do it RIGHT after I put them on, or like all together? I want to spread it out as much as possible, so it'll be a lot easier as far as money goes.

Just make sure you port the wastegate before you do the exhaust stuff. Also, get a new cat-back setup. Go Apex or Racing Beat, or something. Walbro's seem to be popular for FCs, but I dont know any advantages/ disadvantages compared to the FD pumps. If get new cat-backs, you should prob get larger injectors and an S-AFC, but I'm not sure about your current setup
With the bonez superflow system you may creep alittle at WOT. I would take off the apexi intake if you get the bonez system. What is the point of getting the MBC if you are not going to use it and you dont have the supporting mods for it. Instead of spending money on a boost controller invest in a fuel pump. The fuel pump will make you run a little more rich but is cheap insurance.
I ran with a corksport 3 in downpipe to a bonez high flow cat and creeped a little at WOT without a upgraded fuel pump. Just dont floor it or watch your boost gauge to make sure you dont go past your comfort level. By the way my walbro is coming in the mail tomorrow.

Well it would depend on how much you are creeping. If you dont port your wastegate you have several options
1)restrict intake/exhaust
2)stay off the gas
3)run the risk of detonation
Right now I am at #2

Well i'm probably going to be porting the wastegate BEFORE the bonez kit, so would a port up to the stock flapper sides be good enough for both the bonez kit and the a'pexi with minimal problems?
I honestly do not know if it will be enough BUT if you are going to port it do it once and do it right. Port it to the max and dont worry about it again until you think about upgrading the turbo. Larger porting will give you better control over your boost. This is when you can use the boost controller to raise your boost to the desired level and not worry about it creeping.
