Have you checked the sticker under the hood? The yellow mark should be lined up when the timing light is on the L1 wire. Advanced is when the pointed moves towards the red mark. If the marks are dirty, the yellow one is the more clockwise mark when viewed looking towards the front of the car.

The notches etched into the flywheel will still be there and the notch for the Yellow mark is located to the right of the Red notch when looking at the engine from the front of the car.

OK so the Right notch is "Yellow" and the Left notch is "Red" So on my S4 if i get the yellow lined up with the notch should that be good enough timing? or should it be advanced a bit?

Re-read what I wrote and try to comprehend the words.

The sticker under the hood states what the yellow and red mark mean in terms of timing. The actual numbers are also listed in the FSM or Haynes or you can find them in the 2nd gen archive.

You can advance the timing by turning the CAS in the direction that brings the pointer closer to the red mark.

all i needed to know is if the PIN is where the notch needs to be lined up too. thats all i needed to know. I didnt think this was going to turn out such a big deal. the only question i had is if the PIN and the MARK is top dead center? And if the mark should be lined up to the pin exactly or not. thats all my question was.

The yellow mark is something like 15 degrees advanced and the red is something like 25 degrees advanced. The exact numbers are usually on the sticker under the hood. Neither yellow or red notch is TDC. TDC is when the apex seal is between the trailing and leading spark plugs. If you take out the plugs and use a mirror and a flashlight you can see the apex seal pass over the spark plug holes.
When you set the timing the yellow notch is lined up with the pin on the front cover. The timing light gets the signal from the L1 wire.
I usually clean off the yellow notch and put a drop of bright yellow Estes hobby paint on it. I've used a whiteout marker too.
I could have worded my previous post nicer. I'm just trying to help.
I hope I'm helping!
