Am I stupid ?
Do you think I am retarded for wanting to buy a 87 FC TII and fixing it up at the age of 16 ? I have the money, but what worries me is the future. I can't be forkin out 400 dollas every week to fix stuff that breaks. How reliable would a FC be if it was in good condition with a new engine ? New clutch ? The little things bother me, like the waterpump, the radiator, stupid **** like that, and I need to know if this car will be fairly reliable when I drive it with minor abuse.

I'm using mine as a daly driver but i am going to be needing to drop in a few hundard (like 3) to get her back up to good standards like right now i'm just going to flush the radiator and replace thermostat... there is a huge list of stuff that needs to be done to mine including a tune up and minor body fixs and parts i need to find...

Just buy it!! You don't know how easy it is to change a radiator or water pump compared to the entire engine, and the T2 you are looking at has a NEW ENGINE. No matter what car you buy, if it is a good one it will cost you a little $ here and there. Any car will do this, the better ones are a bit more expensive to own. No matter what you drive, you will have to do repairs and maintenance, so just get the T2 and don't kill yourself in it!

400 a week? if the car seems to be in good condition then it should be alright...some people buy an rx7 and never have a single problem. just keep up with maintence/oil changes etc and you should be fine

Get it trust me....
yu don't want to be like me
I'm 17 and i got no money to buy an FC, and i really want one really badly right now.
plus a TII with a new engine...go for it...especially considering you have the money
it won't be no where close to $400 a week, unless you start to do some serious modding to it

as i am sure everyone here knows if you service it regularly and keep the fluids up then it will quite literaly run forever or at least till you pile it up or sell it. the rotory easily can get up to 300,000 miles if up keep it up...

No more crack for you radien. I have NEVER heard of anyone getting 300k out of a rotary let alone out of a turbo motor. Most turbo owners are VERY happy if they get 100k from a motor.
Nuclear 13b, if you have the money and pateince and want a cool car, get the RX7. It shouldnt cost you $400 a week, but the more you mod it the less reliable and more it will cost. Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go? Turbo 2's are MUCH easier to work on and more reliable than an FD, but still i wouldnt call them a really reliable car. Rx7 Turbos arent cheap to own, but if you want something fast and unique and you have the patience to deal with problems, go for it. My car is a pain in the *** from time to time, but i still love it and it turns WAY more heads than a civic SI (which is about what i could have bought with all the money i have put into my FC including the cost of the car). Good luck with your purchase

nuclear13b: i'm on the same boat, except i'm approaching my budge for the car.. i've heared lots of wonderfull things about TII's and most of the bad i hear are from people that don't/haven't/never will own them! my g/f and mom agree' with me "mom: if it makes you happy, get it" everyone else tells me i'm stupid. btw i'm 18 working only for insurance (99 v6 accord) and my cell phone. everything else is going into a savings account for the car.

buy it. You're stupid if you dont. I've owned a 1987 non turbo when i was 17. Didnt regret it one bit, until the coolant seal blew. Then I regreted it a little... but 2.5 grand down the hole, and it was fine!!!
Long story short, get it. The cars are incredible fun to drive!!!!!!!

And remember. Be prepared to become your own Mechanic. There aren't too many people can can dignose/fix these cars.
So get the FSM and the Haynes Manual. With that and the forum, you should be ok.
If the new engine is well built, and not put together with junk, it should give you many years of service.
Make sure to check the condition of the turbo.
Don't forget that this car has many 15 year old parts in it, so a lot of **** could happen. Always have some $$$ put aside.

o also some gauges and a BOV, what kind of reliability should I expect if I change my oil evey 2000 miles ?
