i doubt any major change in CoG for a street car, but this is probably a track car so go for it!
also i do see obvious benefit to moving the alternator for better water pump coverage. id guess that the ideal setup would allow for a 60' triangle of coverage on each pulley, but considering that the w/p has more drag than the alternator, and the eshaft is driving the thing, youd probably want to give more coverage to those two by mounting the alternator slightly higher up. i can see some obvious benefits of being able to actually see the motor! looks cool.

other poster: good luck getting that custom setup working. i like the matrixy look.

The twin throttle body car is going to be primarily a "scare the **** out of your friend" car and will go to the drags and road coarses once it is painted and has its microtech installed.

Freeing up space for a dual throttle body setup, and a shorter runner length are perfectly good reasons to move the alternator. But the weight of the alternator compared to the engine and it's placement isn't going to have a great effect on the forces on the motor mounts let alone the rest of the car, but for the two said reasons it is a great idea. I haven't looked at the water pump and the components of it, but the only problem I could forsee with that is if part of the housing wasn't designed to have such a high load placed on it. Since moving the direction of the pulleys will place the load on a different part of the water pump, but I highly doubt that it would seriously be a problem.

Yeah the CoG benefit is admitedly tiny.

I haven't read the previous 3 pages, but the one thing that popped into my head was cooling- the alt needs as much cooling air flow as it can get, which it gets in the OEM setup. Is it going to get as much sitting on the side of the engine???

I would say that it would have a similar amount of air flow comming at it.

Yea so whats dual alternator pulley for wise guy? I dont think I've ever heard of a dual alternator pulley slipping. "you can run a better designed strut bar" well haha you can run the cheap *** $10 strut bar of ebay. Like you said anything "better designed" is already made to clear the stock alternator. Unless you consider the cheap *** $10 strut bar off ebay "better designed". I know what JDM means and stands for, and I think this is a worthless mod. I will be willing to bet that if some DYI guy starts trying to ghetto rig his alternator to that postion it will never be as good designed as stock and it WILL be ghetto, and will look like some backyard redneck mechanic slapped it on.

The other guy said something about running a bigger alternator. Well **** isnt an FD alternator big enough? Putting a big *** alternator defeats the purpose of this mod which is supposed to help for racing (doubt its anything good). You can also get your stock s5 alternator rebuilt to 135 amps maybe more, there is a guy on teamfc3s that has his alternator built to that.

I could use one and would buy one for $50, if not I'll just make my own.

No need to ask why.

I am also interested in the alt relocation. When do you think you could start cranking them out?

Yes. Cut it down to a flat bracket, then cut off the alternator boss from a spare water pump housing and welded it to the flat bracket in the appropriate location. Cut an ear from aluminum bar stock, drilled a hole in it, and welded it to the edge. I reused the original steel adjustment piece with the slotted hole, but had to shorten it slightly so it wouldnt interfere with the frame.
