alternator eye-hole connection
so the eye hole edge is wider then the plastic ring-like thing around the alternator stud.
is this supposed to be? is something missing from the stud region that is like a spacer or something?

Sounds like an alt from another series car and the lug won't fit the alternator. The lug is supposed to go on what you see in the jpg and the wire attached to the lug is supposed to lie in the groove in the plastic part.
You could crimp a lug of the right size on the wire in the picture??? YEs you can.
Or that plastic piece is held on the alt with a NUT and you could swap that one with your original alt. YES.

sorry for the bump, I know its forbidden but can anyone else help... I am stumped ... and I don't know what to do. like asked before is there some kind of spacer to race the contact point on the alternator up? Or does the eye hole sit on top of the plastic? I would think it would need more cantact then just the nut that holds it on to work proper. I lost the nut that goes on it somewhere in the car.. I think it dropped between frame and fender wall and I can't find it.
Go to the auto store and buy a 8 gauge wire eye with a smaller eye connection. I just did this with mine when I put a FD alternator on. The connector must fit inside the plastic, the cut outs are for the wire side of the connection to clear.

Thank you, this is the answer I was seeking... I assumed it was the correct one, but didn't understand why it was the way it was and thought I had lost something.

Gave it as a core and I replaced it because the connection was what was broke on it.

good point, I was looking at it today and I was like... mmm crimp + solder if anything.
but the filing may work to get it down to fit inside the connector.
Thats why I come here... brainstorming among people who know what your brainstorming towards...
Thanx for the input
