alternator conversion

so i just got my car running yesterday! feels great
but today my alternator went out... feels bad.
so i talked to a few stores in my area and none of them stock a 1991 rx7 turbo alternator, or a 1993 but an employee was helpful and said i can use a mustang cobra alternator and its pretty straight forward.
has anybody done this or know how to? google did not prove much help.

Search. There are quite a few alternator conversions. I myself have had luck using a 105 amp '92 LeSabre alternator. I also have a 130 amp Taurus alt in the basement that I'm prepping. Both drop in with very minor modification, as well as swapping the pulleys.

well you'll having to do some wiring for sure even if you get the matching pigtail for the alt. when you find one . cause its most likely not gonna plug and play with the stock harness

Not necessarily.
The FD is a direct plug-n-play swap (except for the pulley) and there are a multitude of Mazdas that use the same frame (and electrical plug) as the stock S5.

The only reason I know is because I recently spent time on the NAPA website, followed by several hours in the junkyard, searching for a suitable replacement.
MX-6, some 626 and 929's all use an alternator body practically identical to the S5...the main difference being the nominal output.
I picked one from a 929 ($25!) that looked brand new (and may well have been) that is rated at 100A and tested at 110A.

Lucky me.
