alpine cdplayer

I have a alpine cd player i am looking to install into my 87 TII Rx7. I am just wondering how you guys mounted it into the the console. I havnt tried yet but it seems like the area is way to big and wont be able to bolt in there witout some kind of custom work. Maybe I am wrong though?

Go down to your local car audio store, circuit city, good guys, etc. There are install kits that make this a very easy process, and there only $25 or so.

yep bolts right up once you get the little adapter plate thing. make sure to get a relay at radio shack so the power antenna will still work.

I got a bosche thingy i had to actually order because they didnt have any for the rx7! is that what your talking about? It covors up the big hole what the stock cdplayer is in. Or is there an actual metal frame thing the cdplayer should be able to sit into.??

The install kit takes the place of the stock metal mounting system that holds the stock stereo. The new install kit will bolt up to the stock location covering the whole where the stock stereo was leaving you with a 1 din hole for your new stereo. Easy as 1.2.3..

there are probobly several variations but most are plastic. just go to a car stereo shop and they'l hook you up with what you need (dont let them sell you anything more than the bracket tho) actualy the one for the rx7 is generic to most 80's mazdas and some fords. just about any shop worht its salt should have one.

Don't use some lame plastic kit that always looks like circuit city mounted the radio..

Alpine radios have ISO mounting holes.. Mount it to the stock radio bracket

I used the "lame plastic kit" and I get so many comments on how nice my install looks. You just have to do it right, trim it well, and be smart with how you use the remaining DIN space. I put a gauge and my wideband display there so nobody realizes there's a plastic panel back there. So far, after taking the radio out and putting it back in like 10 times, there is no sign of the plastic failing (its far better quality than stock) and although i can't remember the name of the kit (starts with an M I think) I got it at circuit city its what they use for their "pro" (ha) installs. I've got a pic posted on my site, check out what I did with my radio.

I have an Alpine too... they kick butt.

Icemark is right, Alpines are ISO DINs, its what to do with that extra space that you gotta think about.

But I don't know much about things, so don't take my word for it. I've been known to write grave stupidity past midnight, and its around 12:30 am now.

I work at circuit city and I will tell you now that the plastic kit they have is REALLY shitty.

HOWEVER, there is another kit that they can order that is metal, textured like the dash, and very nice.

You'll probably have to talk to the manager of the Road Shop to get it, but tell them you need both install kits from a company called SPG, and if he tells you he can't order from them anymore, he is full of crap, my boss just did it for me no more than a week ago.

Total, it cost me like $15 for both kits. I highly reccomend them.

Hm. Did they use to sell a decent one? The plastic on my kit is awesome... like ABS or something very durable. Looks nice, and fit perfectly. Plus very sturdy side panels. But then again, I bought it like two years ago, and I don't know anything... I just do stupid stuff and put in stupid stuff and if you read my thread on the problems I've had with my car, its not surprising I get what I deserve, right?
