Alabama
I live near B'ham in Oxford about 40 miles east on I-20. Glad to say I'm not a redneck and don't like being called one. I was born in Florida and lived in Maine before I lived here. Does that make me a damn yankee? I don't think so. I like living here. Property tax is generally low as well as the overall cost of living being lower. And another perk of living in Oxford - Cheaha is but 10 minutes away from me. Its a great place to drive. Kinda like a Deals Gap but a little more open.

Tall2Guy - Please tell me your not all coming to the autocross event. If you are I'm not attending. Way to much work involved with people not pre-registering like they should. Theo owner of the Tangelo colored rotary miata and myself can't really enjoy an event if we have to babysit the registeration/timing computer.
lol... lord no. We've got a track day at Talladega Gran Prix on Sunday. We'll all be out there.
Friday night we'll be at Steele
Saturday at the Marriott on 280. Car show until noon. Come by and check it out.
Sunday at TGP.

i'm in madison right next to huntsville and about 15 miles from decatur. its boring as crap but you dont have to worry about emissions or any of that. i remember one time i drove celica open at the headers (i couldn't go above 3k rpm cause it hurt my head too much) right past the police and they didn't hassle me or anything. but we're starting to get too many (or we have too many rather) riceboys with their civics and eclipses with giant metal wings, apc everything, and annoying godawful exhausts.
Im in Auburn, I was raised in Illinois moved to anniston in 83 and then to B'ham in 97. I moved here to Auburn last year, i really miss B'ham. Hey Fprep Cheaha is a really great drive. One of my buddies and I rented TGP back in feb. was the greatest fun I have had in quite a while.

cheaha is a really sweet drive. especially if you start out in mumford and go in the backway to the park.
any of you guys involved in scca? I have always wanted too, but never did.
We should plan a meet somewhere around bham to see everybody's 7's.
Anybody ever ran the "tail of the dragon" up above gatlinburg?
Come to Alabama, stay a while, and you'll never want to leave.

I am the "Colvin" that used to be on the FC list and occasionally lurk on the SE-RX7 List.
I live in a suburb just south of B'ham. I regularly hit SCCA events in the Birmingham and Huntsville area.
I will PM you.

I'm from Mobile. I live in Atlanta now but I go back to Mobile every few months to visit Family and friends. I actually miss that town a lot. I used to think traffic on Airport blvd was bad. I wish I could drive airport everyday now.
Does anyone know anything about that road track thats supposed to open in B'ham next year? I've heard it's supposed to be an awsome track. When it opens I will be racing there next season. Can't wait.

Mike

This might answer your question. I've heard that we might be able to try it out as early as this time next year. I've also heard that it will be the widest road course in the country which will lend itself to great W2W racing. Either way, I can't wait to run a few hot laps.

...where I toasted the WRX. No car W2W, too narrow. Mainly a go-cart/motorcycle track, but big enough for cars.
Fun course.

Mike,
There's a bit about that track in this months Road & Track. Read Peter Egan's colum. The guy who owns the motorcycle museum in B'ham ( big time racing guy whose name I can't remember right now for lack of cafeeeen....skip barber?) is building a new museum and road course... Should be really interesting. Supposed to be up to SCCA/CART/IRL/F1!?! specs! Mr. Egan (the R&T guy) was really impressed and said he'd be making a return trip to drive the track.

Wondering why he's read this deep into the Alabama thread.... TGPR RULES! but then, I didn't get the rubber side up. That might have changed my feelings about the place...a little
Talladega Gran Prix is a nice course for soloI & II but definetly not big enough for W2W. To bad we can't have anymore Solo events there. The owners complained that some of the high HP cars with big racing slicks was tearing the new surface up. I guess I would have done the same thing if in their shoes. There bread and butter is from motorcycle racing events so they want to keep the track in good shape for those events.
