Airconditioning + IC?

Hey guys, I've been thinking and wondering , for an fc what is the most effective way to get rid of the stock TMIC on the fc and get a better one to compensate more boost, while still keeping the AC unit, for example a FMIC would mean;

FMIC, Oil cooler, AC condensor, Radiator,

seeing how the radiator is last im pretty sure its getting barly any air from the bumper and you will overheat, so what do you guys suggest?

Greddy fmic gets the job done. Retains the p/s and a/c. Would recommend a koyo rad with any front mount.

its barely getting air, stock fan is a must or a VERY good electric fan and shroud set up will get you by, but dont be expecting alot of full boost runs with the AC on

You're absolutely correct about the radiator last to get air from the front. That's why if you go FMIC and stay with the stock fan you pro probably should put in a new fan clutch to insure you're pulling the maximum amount of air. Alternatively, a VERY high flowing electric fan replacement for the stock fan. Otherwise, replacement of the stock radiator with the most efficient radiator you can find. I went with a duo-pass Koyo.

More over, only automatics and TII's came stock with the electric AC fan. NA manuals (such as Verts) didn't. So, for the same reason as your voiced concern, I retrofitted one into my FMIC equiped TurboVert along with a termo switch to turn the fan on at 190 degrees (operating temperature) to compliment the air flow.

Truely, the best alternative to the TMIC is a V-Mount for all these reasons. But that requires a thicker wallet (including needing to replace the hood) than a more readily available FMIC set up.

Wow, that was a very informal answer,

now, more questions come to mind, so if I put a FMIC with AC on a fc, I should replace the radiator, and the fan clutch, to make sure i dont over heat , is this very effective? I dont care if the ac blows super cold, aslong as its cooler then the air outside im happy...

would Dual E-fans be more efficient then the stock fan? or does it depend on the brand of the e-fan?

I was thinking of possibly a Vmount, but a new hood, ... i love the orig t2 hoods, and hoods are pretty costly, also, if you do chose vmount could u keep the stock hood and make air ducts from the bumper to the IC? , but what i dont understand is what material to make these ducts out of..

* also would like to say that fitting and placement of a ic isnt a problem. i can get my hands on pipes for free, and my dad and I are very good at welding, and own our own miller welder, with that said would a VMOUNT be anymore of a budget problem except for just the hood?

Dual e fans, brank e fans. Doesn't matter. What matters is the CFM, higher is better. All about improving the cooling as muchas you can given the situation.

As to mod to the hood for a V-mount, what you could do is make air ducts in the front of the hood something like this (excuse the crude artwork so use imagination ). Think along the lines of the vented headlight covers.:
.........Air
..........\/

^^^^__/^^|
..........IC.......|.<--Air

Remember the V stands for Vertical. So the air needs to go down to get through the VMIC

dont do CF, just get a fiberglass hood and paint to match car. There is actually a list for a group buy for THE BEST looking FC hood EVER MADE.
In CA so you could do pick up and save on shipping.

thermoswitch - a switch that is opened and closed based on temperature (of coolant of course)

Very possible to run a FMIC without tooo much work. Did a setup on my TII where the intake instead of going up goes horizontal towards the leading coils and the intercooler pipe goes in between the power steering pump (if you still have it) and then down past that to a factory hole behind the battery that would need to be made larger for larger intercooler piping and then it goes down, you make a couple bends or buy 90's or 45's and then to the intercooler in front and the other side of the intercooler piping goes in between the radiator barely and then a couple more 90's and maybe a reducer and your plumbed into the turbo outlet. You would have to relocate the leading coil a little to make room for the pipe to go where it needs to. I can explain it a little more if you like but this is typically what I do for FMIC's on Turbo second gens or turbo engine swaps
