Air pump, do i need it?

Well my air pump siezed up and i was looking to replace it, but a mechanic friend of mine told me just to take the belts off and leave it and it would give me some extra horse anyways. Is this true, or am i fishing to have something else go wrong if i do this.

I understood it to be emissions related, and if you're not worried about passing, then take it off.

I took mine off years ago....no driving side effects.

I recorded .75 extra horsies.

On a TII, basically the only thing it does is pump air into the cats to keep them form burning up. Just take it the whole air pump off, itll clean up the engine bay and save you a few pounds.

for '87 NA, it produces vaccum pressure (negative) to control auxiliary port.

No, thats only on s5's. On s4's the aux ports are controlled by exhaust backpressure.
