Air pump breather filter: what part # ?
I need to have my car be somewhat emissions friendly since I have annual testing here in PA. I'm in the process of getting this CAI project together and my dad (who doesn't know a lot about cars/rotaries) offered to stop by Pep Boys on the way home from work and pick up a breather filter for me.
Naturally, he came home empty handed. Regardless of the employee's intelligence or lack thereof, a part number number would go a long way to making this easier to locate. In my searching on the forum several people have claimed that Pep Boys does indeed carry a breather filter (mini cone intake) that can be attached to the end of the air pump tube.
Something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634
Or perhaps this one from K&N (a little nervous about cost for something so unimportant):
http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/univround.aspx (part # RU-3630, third one down)
I've also come across information on this forum where someone suggested that one could just use panty hose or something similar at the end of the rubber/silicone tube. Is that wise if I can't locate a real filter?
Thanks

All you need is the size of the neck. Measure the diameter of the air pump's metal intake pipe and get one to fit that. Or even just take the rubber hose that connected the airbox and air pump along and match it.
If you absolutely must have a part number, go to K&N's website and pick one from the online catalogue.

i've looked for a breather filter at pepboys, autozone, and even wallmart. the only ones they have are too small to fit on the FCs air pump, you need to hollow it out more but even then it still might not be enough. i can guarentee you that ebay one wont fit... like NZ said, measure the diameter and go from there.
that k&n one looks like it'd fit, but measure your air pump hole first to make sure. when i bought my FC, one was already on there, but it fits it like a glove, wasn't modified to fit. i have NFC where the guy got it from though. anyways, let us know what you find, i need a new one too, mine is kinda old and could use a cleaning.
forgot to mention, the ones you find at pepboys and stuff are 'universal' but when they say that they usually mean 'will fit on any honda/acura'

I checked out the price of the one that seemed like a possible fit from K&N and it's $28 online (froogle.com).
Since it looks like on a stock intake setup the airpump is just drawing filtered air from the stock airbox, would it be reasonable to assume that I could simply attach the airpump hose to somewhere along my new intake pipe?
I have until the end of March before emissions tests and I'm an s4 (aux ports arent effected), so if I didn't find one in time, what would happen if I blocked off that tube? Any detrimental effects on engine longevity/performance?

as long you connect it between the filter and the AFM you're good. you don't want it to suck metered air for the simple reason that the engine expects all metered air to be going directly to the motor
second part
the airpump feeds air to the rear rotor during deceleration, and that's the main reason for filtering it anyway. if nothing else, get one of those crappy ones from AutoZone and clamp it into the stock rubber hose.

Thanks for the tips truespin88, but what about blocking it off alltogether? I hear that people do that as part of the emissions removal process. Does that rear rotor really need/like that air during deceleration?
