Air pump/air control valve???

Ok I was thinking of removing this because I was told it would improve the performance of my car. I since have found out that is not true!!
So I am wondering why everyone is removing there system if it doesnt do anything? What are the gains for doing this mod? I already have the dual pulley installed minus the belt! I have the block off plate! I am planning on doing this soon so everyones info would be great!!!

no cat = no need for air pump = weight reduction = better performance

you wont notice a big difference, but it is weight reduction, and it cleans up your engine bay a lot. after i took off my air pump/acv i could actually see my turbo!
you need a block off plate for the ACV. plus it makes you shoot fire more easily, because the Anti-Afterburn valve is part of the ACV. plus you can make a few "well placed cuts" in your airpump and use it as a supercharger!!

This isn't quite up there with a turbo upgrade!
The AVC and air pump (aka the Secondary Air Injection System) are there to improve emissions. It's not entirely true that they're useless if the cat's gone (because it helps burn excess unburnt fuel) but if you've pulled the cat you're obviously not too concerned about emissions so the rest of the system might as well go. The only performance benefits come from eliminating the parasitic loss of the air pump, which is very little anyway, and an equally small reduction in weight. I highly doubt you'll even notice. (If like me your ACV turns out to be stuffed, various mysterious hesitation problems will completely disappear!) It will also clean up your engine bay a bit; you'll actually be able to see your turbo!

Check Icemark's FAQ at the top of the 2nd gen forum. He has all the defenitions of abreviations listed there. ACV stands for Air Control Valve and is exactly what it does. Its a main part of the emissions system and its commonly removed when ppl remove there airpump and catolytic converters.
You need to get access to a FSM (factory service manual) which will tell you where everything is and how to take it off.
