air intake idea, probably a repost

I put in a cone filter tonight. It was a real expensive one...$5. Anyway...instead of just taking out my stock filter and putting the new cone in it's place, I left all the pieces of the stock filter on except the bottom clam piece and obviously the filter itself. My theory is that if there is any kind of forced air coming into there via the stock setup, if I leave the top on there it will put it near the new filter, also keeping the hotter air on the top of the engine compartment away from the filter. I'm sure 99% of you are laughing as you read this, cause I'm kind of laughing that I actually did this. In fact, I don't even remember the point of this except that my butt dyno says that there were 0 gains in HP from this mod. It almost felt negative. Comments?

Butt dyno? Also, how much HP can you gain from just changing the filter design? I know about the free air flow, but still...

in hondas, it's not uncommon to gain 10-15 hp from just a cold air intake, so I thought maybe it would gain a little at least. ahh well.

There was a test on how restrictive the stock intake boxes were and in that test the FC had the most restrictive air box compared to other 4 cylinder cars including a honda civic.

It's probably so stinkin restrictive because of that springy air blocker thingy in there! WTF is that thing? An air flow sensor?

Yes it is the AFM. From what I understand, just adding a cone filter will do nothing. You need a cold air box to see any type of gain.

Search around there are alot of good topics on this.
