Air/Fuel Mix Gauge readings

Air Fuel Gauge Readings
Yesterday I went to smog here in Cali. I had them do a Pre-test. The car passed no problem. Then, they had to back me out to let someone w/a appt come in. 25 minutes later they pulled me back on the Smog-Dyno and started to run the test again when one of the guys said, "Hey, you Air/Fuel Mix gauge is drifting into "Rich" land at cruise(25 mph, 2nd gear). He said it should be fluxuating. So, we stopped the test.

I am looking for any clues to why this might be happening. 88 Turbo 2. I changed the O2 sensor last night, no change. I was running 91 w/octain booster. Found 105 near by, so last night I drainned the tank and will put 5 gal of the 105 in. The car is back to stock, with the exception of the fresh Atkins Street Port. Both cats on as well. The main cat is a new Magnaflow High flow cat, but my problem is pre-cat. It is timed right, and running at 750 rpm.

Thanks guys!
Chris

EEEKKKKK lower the octane... lowest you can go. 87 is much better. You want something that will burn completly as soon as possible, not rocket fuel that will take forever to burn.

mine bounces all over the place at that sort of speed

the only time i got it to stay steady at rich was at 75mph in 5th with the cruise control on ??

no idea what that means - but it might help ( and thats with 106K and presumed original 02 sensor )

^^^^ Someone else said that to me. The guy at the shop recomended it. See, my problem lies somewhere else, so I need to get to the bottom of it. I feel I am getting closer. However, I will put a gallon of 87 in my tank and see if anything changes.

When I get to a criusing speed, my gauge pegs in the the rich area. It should be jumping. Found this thread, will go from there.

Oh geez.

Never, EVER listen to a "guy at the shop", especially if you own a rotary!

by the way, for turbo vehicles you are suppose to run highest octane possible if i remember correctly. If you need to pass smog or w/e it is then if you are running rich try putting 87 and see how that works out for you...until you can get to the source of your problem.
