Exclamation Air flow meter question

The measuring plate on my afm will not open. Is there any way to fix it, or do i need to buy a new one? I have a 88 gxl n/a. p.s- I searched the forum.

It's hard to believe the vane won't move. But, remove the screws out of the bottom of it and take a look inside. Maybe some lubricant??? Yes.

Im about 30 min from Minneapolis. Thanks! ill try that tommorrow. Also, is a sfm from an '89 interchangeable? or are they different?

The AFM's on the S5's (89-91) are different than the S4's. No, it won't plug right in.

If the lubricant doesn't work..

Have someone start the car, and see if the flapper opens. If it cuts right off, while they are cranking next time ease it open a bit. See if it will stay running then? After that I have no clue.

ok, thanks for the info on the s5. I tried to see if it opens when i try to start it, but it doesnt. I sprayd some wd 40 in it but it didnt help. The door is stuck TIGHT. It wont budge. I tried to pry it a little (I didnt want to break anything though) but it wont open.....

Take the bottom waffle plate off and look for something jamming it. It's only a few screws. Not high tech. Nothing to destroy there.

If it comes down to it, I might be able to get my hands on an S4 AFM for you. But try to fix your's first.

Replace it. S4 AFMs are a dime a dozen.
