K&N drop in works fine and keeps the stock look, Cone filter will give you bit more performance gain only if you make a cold air box, If your not plaining on making a cold air box you will be better off with a K&N drop in.

A drop-in filter will give little to no gain compared to a (clean) stock filter. The airbox is the restriction, not the filter.

If you just add a pod filter you'll be sucking hot engine bay air, so most of the gains from the lower restriction will be lost due to the lower air density. A decent heat shield and cold air duct will be necessary.

i see.. thanks for some response.. i think i'll just get the drop in for now then.. cause i don't really want to make the cold air box now, plus no time in hand.. so i'll just get the drop in.. and yes!. i do want to keep the stock look... once again thanks guys..

Are you doing this for performance or to save money? Over time the K&N works out cheaper, but it takes several years for the savings to repay the initial purchase cost, so if you replace it with a pod filter before then you've wasted your money. If you do this for performance, again you've wasted your money.

I have a drop in K&N filter on my '88 vert and did the inlet duct mod on the air box top cover (only the inlet duct, did not drill holes in the cover) as described in the link

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...=stock+air+box

Not sure about any HP gains, but the throttle response was significantly improved. As a side note, since the vert is an S4, I replaced the S4 air snorkel with an S5, another easy mod.

You would've had about the same result from a new (i.e. clean) stock filter.

The K&N drop in filters work. I’ve used them in 4 cars and each time the K&N drop in provided a noticeable difference over previous replacements with a “clean” stock filter. Also, the K&N drop in filter’s gasket adhesive does not melt and drip down into the air box and AF meter like some stock filters, which I have have been told about and experienced on an RX-7 with a Mazda OEM filter.

I had a K&n FIlter and switched it to a different filter. can't say the brand because i'm not too sure of it myself but you could get a better filter thats a little more expensive maybe 30 to 50 bucks but will give you better power. i felt the difference in the filters when i switched them. you could find them in you local performance shops.
