aftermarket tach? HELP PLEASE

ok heres the story this morning this guy was selling some sun pro tach he stole fo 5 bucks so i buy it and naturally since im in auto elec 2 studing gauges at the moment i de cided to put in just for giggles and after i ran all 4 of the power and ground wires then i came to the tach wire the wiring digarm i had said the stock tach came from the trailing ignightor so i ran one wir and was gett ing 1000 on the stock and500 or less on the after market on all cylinder settings so i split the wires for one on each side of the ignitor t1 and t2 and that killed both tachs so i dissconected th battery to resset the cars sytem dissconected the new tach

so my question is this where do i splice the green tach wire? if on the coil where? and which coil? why do both die?
i know this is a ricer thing to do i heard it for 5 hours i was working on this thing but i got out of ap history to work on my car so its all good

First, you may want to rethink posting about purchasing stolen goods. Many people around here frown upon such activities, me included. Not to mention, it's illegal, and the internet is nowhere near as anonymous as you'd like to think.

The signal for the aftermarket tach should come from the barrel plug under the trailing coils. If you're getting odd readings from that, it may be an issue with the aftermarket tach.

You could try hooking the aftermarket tach up to the leading coil barrel plug, but this should theoretically show twice the RPM.

Did the RPMs stay split as you raised the engine RPM? The stock tach is known to be reasonably inaccurate at low RPM (and, really, throughout the band, but a +/- 300 RPM spread is more significant at low RPM).

I think (hope) he meant it was REALLY a great deal at $5, which would be better than stealing it in my book too.

Remind me to stay away from kansas... they are all crooks

The correct wire is the Yellow/blue, which can be found at the trailing coil, or back of the cluster, or the power steering computer, and/or the cruise control computer.

Don't buy stolen goods. Its bad karma...

FC owner with bad karma = blown up FC.

So, at idle the stock/aftermarket units were reporting 1000/500, at higher RPMs they were reporting, say, 2500/2000, 4500/4000, 6500/6000? If that's the case, the aftermarket tach is probably right.

Stolen parts are a really such a great deal...and the **** just falls from the sky right into your lap.

Maybe since you run with these guys, you can buy back the parts they steal from YOUR CAR.
There is no honor among thieves...

You are a thief if you buy stolen goods.

If I were you, I would think twice about hanging with people that have a
common practice of buyng and selling anything stolen. You should have higher expectations for your life.

BTW, if I caught you or your buddies stealing from me, my business or my car,
you would beg me to just shoot you and get it over with.

You don't think it is a big deal to sell your integrity for the price of an aftermarket tach?
That tach can be bought for $45 shiped on ebay. Less if you are patient. What does this say about you as a man?

Your honor and integrity sold for $40?

Apologize for offending us? Sheesh. Do you think the problem here is that you hurt our feelings?
**** boy, grow up! Apologize to the guy who lost his tach. Apologize to your parents for turning out this way.
Apologize to your grandparents for turning out this way! Apologize to your self, then change. Learn from this situation.

At all times, in all things act with honor, integrity and dignity.

Become a man.

Oh, now I understand. Your morals are just fine because you say they are.
You just want the honest people on this board to tell you how to hook up your stolen tach.
The one that you didn't personally steal. <sarcasm>

Boy, if you buy something that you think is stolen, you are indeed a thief also. Do it three times, and you become a felon.

So do your friends. You hang with the wrong crowd, you gonna get burned.

Grow up.

Let me put it to some of you this way... You own and autozone. You have over 1.5 million dollars in inventory. All of which has to be accounted for and ballanced out...otherwise... it comes out of you...the store owners...bottom line. If you had and enployee that was stealing something from you...regardless of the price...weather is 5 dollars or $19.99. That is money out of your pocket.... Would you really want someone stealing from you...

Friends... It just doesn't seem right. Not to mention its wrong in the eyes of God. It will come back to you. anyway... Maybe get a job to pay for the $19.99 tach... I mean....I spent more than that on dinner last night...

I also have to ask... How smart is the middle man... If he/she steals the tach that retails for $19.99 and sells it for $5.00 dollars.... ummm... how smart are they...you can hardly buy a quarter pounder meal for $5.00 dollars... It just does not seem right.

I hope your tach never works. Go to work. Earn the money. Get a REAL tach. (not sunpro). You will appreciate the tach so much more....

Anyway-
