Aftermarket Oil Pressure Guage

Aftermarket Oil Pressure Guage
Hey guys,
I bought an autometer oil pressure guage because I've got a new engine, and the original guage is finished - surprise, surprise. The problem that I'm having is that the autometer sending unit thread is 1/8", while the thread in the block for the oem unit is metric. I've looked all over for a metric/imperial adapter, but no one can help me. Any ideas? Has anyone else put one of these in? Is there somewhere else on the block I can put it? Thanks for your help,
Nick
P.S. I used to post frequently on the OLD FC3S forum, but have been offline since I blew the engine. It's good to see that there are some familiar names on this board!

The Mazda OEM oil pressure gauge is 1/8"BSP-28 - it's very close to the aftermarket 1/8"NPT-27.  If you're going to replace the OEM unit, put some thread sealant on the sensor and crank it in as hard as you can.  Just keep in mind, that you probably can't put back a Mazda OEM sender after you're done this.
Keep in mind to use the hex shank closest to the threads when you do this.  Do NOT crank the larger pressure sensor body, as this will usually kill an internal connection if the crimp body slips!  Don't ask me how I know this...

Thanks for the advice, and sorry about your lesson! The thing is that I can't even get the new sending unit against the block because it hits the bracket that holds the oil filter. Because of this I had to buy a 1/2" long adapter that would enable the unit to clear the bracket. The adapter thread is 1/8" NPT, but I cant get the thread to start in the hole at all. Can I buy a line with imperial at one end and metric at the other? Would that work? Thanks again,
Nick

Oh yeah, totally forgot about the extra long shaft on the Mazda OEM unit. That's right - an "extender" would be required.  If the threads don't catch, try and get an 1/8"NPT-27 tap, and tap the hole first.  The 1/8"NPT tap should be easily found at any local hardware store.  This should let your aftermarket oil pressure sender thread right in after - don't forget the thread sealant or teflon tape!

You need a 1/8 BSPT to 1/8 NPT adapter to put it together correctly.
Autometer sells it, I bought some on the net awhile ago,
I did a search and found a company in FL thats sells them.
I will see if I can find the link.
