Aftermarket oil cooler line installation issues

R

Recently picked these up from Mazdatrix to install on my 88 GTU, after the OEM lines dry rotted and started to leak. Got the old lines out and was ready to put these in. Only to find that they are a PITA to install I worked on installing the short line for 3 hours and still wasn't able to make any progress. Has anyone installed these on their cars, and can give me some pointers? This is killing me, and I'd hate to have to purchase different lines. Do I have to delete AC?

You dont have to delete the AC. What i did was removed the radiator since im replacing it with koyo racing radiator and remove the oil cooler and ive installed the lines to the cooler and it just take some massaging to put the oil cooler back to the brackets. The lines are very stiff so just be careful not to kink the lines

So you put the lines on the oil cooler first, then run them to the block?

Also, this kit includes 2 bungs with washers. Any idea which ones go where?

Any pics of the install? Haven't been able to find a write-up anywhere.

you just put it on? its kind of a pain, i think the AC/PS bracket needs to come off, and then you put the fittings on the engine and cooler, and put the hoses on and you're done.

the shop manual is here, http://foxed.ca/index.php?page=rx7manual#secondgen

It the trouble with
1. aligning the connectors
2.threading the connectors
3. getting the hose around objects in the path
4. are you sure you are installing into correct positions on the oil cooler?

Got her done yesterday. I was being stupid and didn't realize the OEM long oil cooler line comes in 2 pieces, and there's another banjo bolt at the back of the engine under the oil filter.

We've all been stupid at some point. I was changing oil cooler lines on my first RX-7 17 years ago and managed to shear off all the studs that go through the water pump pulley because I put the fan back on but forgot to tighten the nuts.

With the radiator and oil cooler removed, is it still necessary to remove the fan, belts, and the AC PS pumps?
