I have an 88 TII that I want to restomod into an autocross car, and I like to be able to keep an eye on things like AFR, boost, water temp, etc. I�d like to keep it looking OEM+ so I was wondering if anyone had figured out a way to put aftermarket boost/oil pressure gauges to replace the stock ones while keeping their location next to the tach/speedo? Is there space behind the OEM gauges to fit the standard 52mm aftermarket gauges if I made a custom plate for them to replace the stock gauge assembly pictured below

If this isn�t possible, what are some alternative options for mounting gauges other than the A pillar?

 

I'm sorry, did someone say race-car? What you want is an Ic-7. There are also companies that make the bezel surround to mount it into the stock location. You also don't NEED the haltech for it to operate.. but you'll need to be handy with wiring and sensor installations / locations.

I've thought about doing this several times, but have never pulled the trigger on it. The S5 gauge cluster is a much better starting platform as the gauges are all round to start with, but the real issue is there is very little depth clearance in the stock cluster. You could in theory remove/modify the circuit board behind the gauge units, but then you pretty much have to replace ALL of the gauges as there are lots of power, ground, and signal traces on that board. You may be able to fit a small digital screen in there, but if you're going for OEM+ look I'm guessing that's not an option.

 

ive seen aftermarket gauges in an S5 cluster before, its kind of neat, off the top its an odd size, like 46mm, but its neat
i've also seen people replace the cluster "screen" with like a CF panel, and then you can put whatever gauges you want in that. the Re Amemiya FC 2000 is like that, among others

the digital ones are ok, but they are expensive and get obsolete in a hurry. also there is a lot of rebranding and different softwares and such too, so you need to go down the rabbit hole and see which is the value per $$

 

Is the S5 gauge cluster a drop in replacement? I remember hearing something about the water temp sensor being different but that wouldn�t be a problem since I�m replacing it, my main concerns would be wiring differences between the s4 tach/speedo and the s5

 

I swapped a s5 cluster in my s4 and utilized aftermarket gauges. Unfortunately they are 45mm, and the only ones I know of who make them (prosport) now only have a limited selection available. I don't know of any way to do it with an s4 gauge without really hacking it up.
