aftermarket bypass valve Q

hey guys, well i finally got my engine in my car and everything bolted up; sounds really nice without the exhaust system hooked up yet heheh. well anyway i bought an aftermarket bypass valve thats probably 5-8x larger than the stock bypass valve the 13bt comes with. my question is: Will the stock turbo, be able to use that bypass valve without a problem? it should be boosting at least 8-10lbs, i havent installed the boost gauge yet, but will it be able to use the bypass valve?

Are you talking about a blow-off valve? Pretty much any BOV will work as long as it's installed properly.

How did you work out it was 5-8 times larger than the stock one?

AKA reciculating BOV. They all work basically the same and do basically the same thing. It should work fine if it's hooked up same as stock.

BTW, the size of the connections (area not diameter) is the easiest way to compare BOV's. 1" connections would make it about double the size of the stock one with its 3/4" connections. How big are the connections on your valve?

You may need some custom plumbing, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

LOL, yes, it's called a bypass valve in 'Merican lingo.

I think the correct term is "compressor bypass valve", but Mazda calls it an "air bypass valve".

See even that term is a misnomer, since the air does not bypass the compressor when it opens. The air it vents has already been through the compressor and in fact it may be recirculated through the compressor several more times while the valve is open and the compressor is still spinning.

Mind you, at idle the "ABV" is open, so air is in fact bypassing the compressor.

lol thanks, well i just meant the size of the bypass valve, or recirculating bov as NZ puts it, not the connections on it. yeah custom piping will be done. one more question though, if i make a custom aluminum TID from the filter to the turbo obviously, can i solder the flange and bolt the abv to it and still use the existing connections from the old stocker? will it even work there as an abv?

It'll work fine.

Note that at 8-10psi the stock BOV will also work fine. Unless you're running so much boost that the stock BOV either leaks or can't relieve pressure fast enough to prevent compressor surge, a bigger one isn't going to make any difference.
