Cool Advice on lighting...

I am quite dissatisfied with my stock sealed beams - they are just not good enough for Togei. I am thinking of buying H4 housings and some new bulbs to go with them, but I can't afford HID.

What kind of bulbs should I buy? I don't care about how "cool" they look, I just want the ones that give me the best visibility.

Thanks for helping me out, appreciate it...

Those cheapass bulbs you can get on ebay are pretty good for visibility, I'd recommend them.

Got this from a member last year. I still haven't done it yet, but I'm hanging on to it in case inspiration strikes.

The conversion was to: Bosch H4, yellow and black box from Canadian Tire, price should be 89.95, and that will give you the lenses, and a set of H4 bulbs. Remove the sealed beam light, install the bulb into the lens of the new light, put on rubber seal, and plug it in, even the socket is the same. Voila, great lighting, you can even upgrade the bulbs if you trust your wiring...

Sylvania silverstars are your best cost effective swap. They can be purchased either as sealed beams or H4 bulbs for sealed beam conversions.

I'd get the conversion housings and some Silverstar H4 bulbs.

I went through a few ebay bulbs, they didnt last very long, and the blue tint attracted the wrong kind of attention (ie COPS)

Yeah that's exactly what I am trying to avoid. Anybody know whether the Silverstars have a bluish tint to them?

The Sylvania Silverstar's do not have the Bluish Tint In them.
From the site:

"SYLVANIA's SilverStar is the brightest, 100% street legal halogen on the road- burning cleaner and crisper, with a white-hot intensity that will set you and your machine apart. SilverStar is the only halogen that captures the high performance look of HID, changing your view of the night".

They do not have blue tint. They are about as pure white as you are gonna get without going blue-ish. I love em myself.

ok.....but here--read that description again. HID IS that blue-tint look. They say it captures the HID look, but youre saying that they dont??

it doesn't say "blue-hot intensity" it's white-hot.

BTW... am I the only one who thinks they have the worst marketing campaign on the planet?

the silverstars are not blue looking (as far as I can tell from people who have them). Piaa's aren't blue either (super white/extreme white) but cost a lot. Still, nothing compares to the real HID for visibility and safety (real HID's look great too, not cheesy at all - you can tell the real ones from the cheapy bulbs in your rearview). I've got a 6000K HID conversion my brother had in stock on the shop, makes a good bday present hehe the color is like BMW (greenish on ignition, purple-ish when the bulbs warm up for a minute). I've got Hella's offroad H4 conversion housings...

exactly--HID isn't white! That was my point in the first place....look at all the cheapies on the market that are simulated HID...why did they make all of those blue to simulate HID if this one simulates it too and is white?? All I am saying is that doesnt add up.

oh, and anarchy, I am not referring to what the package SAYS. I am referring to what they actually DO. So far, every simulated HID out there except for this one is blue tinted, so that makes no sense.

Silverstars are great, Ive had lots of bulbs and I like them the most so far.

DO NOT buy the sealed beam. What you want to do is get a good set of H4 Conversion housings and the 9003?/H4 size Silverstar bulbs.

When choosing a housing, make sure you get housings that have a diffuser in them so the bulb itself doesnt blind oncoming traffic.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33710

Theres a good example. Just make sure you get projector housings that have a reflector IN FRONT of the bulb. Makes a world of difference for beam pattern.

Well, who says HID has to be bluish? It all depends on how hot the bulbs run...the 4100ks look pretty white to me.

I am pretty sure that the hotter the temp, the purpler/bluer they get...correct me if I am wrong though.
