adjusting cold start idle?

Alright, well I've read what look like the relevant bits of the manual, searched around a bit here... and I still can't work it out. Maybe I'm just a bit slow, but it'd be lovely if anyone could help

my 88 t2 seems to take quite some time for the thermowax to come down from a high idle. probably a good 5-8 mins of the water temp having stabilised. Now I realise the engine is probably still warming up during this period, but it seems excessive to have the cold start idle go for 15 minutes...

can this be simply adjusted, and if so, how?

Look on page 4B-62 of the EFI/Turbo chapter in the 88 FSM. It shows how to adjust the fast idle. The first screw adjusts at what temp the idle is increased, the second adjusts the cold idle speed.

see for some reason I can't follow that very well, now that I look at it again
do you know if that can be done with just the intercooler off? and is that on the back side of the engine?
I'm not very good at going from basic black and white diagram to full colour 3d engine bay, evidently...

bump

I'm bringin this back to see what kind of progress has been had. I have a similar problem, although my car does not like to hold an idle on a cold start, but is fine after the car warms up. I suspect the thermowax is out of adjustment, but I'm not sure how to adjust it. I figure my SE is very similar in set up to an FC.

damn my turbo II is idling at like 3k-35, i havent started it in a month and i let it warm up about a 1/4 and it still didnt drop from 3k then i just shut it off because i had to go somewhere. It seems when i engage my clutch that the idle will rise to like 4. I was wondering wut that could be from also.

I did, I don't have a FSM... first screw and second screw don't help much, I don't even know where they are.

Almost 5000 and you haven't figured out how to not be an ***? Seriously, I didn't know it was something that EVERYBODY should know, and seeing has even through an engine swap and other work, I've never even needed a FSM, why would I have tried to find out how to get one? But silly me, my post count indicates that I shold've known. Whatever...

If you're going to be that way, then forget it, I'll get it done myself. A simple link to it would have been just plenty, not a smart *** comment.

If anyone else has a post that will actually help me with my problem, please help me out. Thanks in advance...

You can get FSM from:

FC3S.ORG

and

TEAMFC3S.ORG

Both great sites!

Yeah, some people do "assume" certain things, rather than being helpful.

Your post count doesn't indicate how much you know, but it does indicate how much time you've spent here.

The places to go to download the FSM have been posted in this forum hundreds of times my myself and many others. I find it very hard to believe that you've been here long enough to make all those posts and you've never seen the FSM links, or even thought to search for them. They're even in the FAQ sticky.

You wanted to know how to adjust your TB and I told you exactly where to go to find out how. I even gave you the page number. Do you want me to type out all of the text and copy all of the pictures too? I've never seen anyone post here about how to set the TB correctly, but I knew where you could go to find out.

I really enjoy helping people on this site; it's one of the main reasons I'm here. But I don't feel like continually spoon-feeding the same info over and over again when it's available so easily. You have a very valuable resource available to you for free so I suggest you use it just like I did.

You've got a hell of a nerve calling me ***, particularly since I'm the only one who's posted info on how to solve your problem.

Sorry for the rant...

And here's a good reason, obviously you haven't looked at my sig... I DON'T OWN AN FC! What reason would I have to look for a FSM for a 2nd gen until now? This is the first time I've needed engine help that the the 12A crowd really can't answer...The only reason I did because there's not a lot of SE's, and the 1st gen guys aren't much help with it. Sure, I have 500 or so posts, but 99% aren't in this forum, they're in the 1st gen forum, damn.
