Just a simple question, If I am too lazy to change the oil can it hurt to add a different weight of oil to the full pan of 10w30? Its almost summer and it seems the oil gets very thin with a lot of driving. Thanks for any input.
good question, i kind of want to know too... and does it matter if you change the brand of oil like when you're just adding b/c ur low and not doing a complete oil change yet...?
and GTIguy, did you end up selling those rims on ebay?

I've gotten it to the point where I spend more time jacking the car up than unscrewing the drain bolt, changing the filter, and refilling the oil with additives, and dropping the car.
My jack sits about 2.5 inches off the ground, but about 3 at the lever. The jack fits under the frame rail, but not the front engine cross bar thing (whatever crossbar sits aft the radiator and for the oil pan. In any case it either takes two jacks or one jack and one jack stand.
At most ten minutes.

You will wind up with 15W-40
I would try to stick with the same brands and either syn or dino. Other than that mixing should be ok
I have an M3 which requires 10W-60 Castrol Synthetic.
I was out in the boonies very late and my oil warning light came on. I could find no syn oil anywhere. I had to put a quart of dino in
I toook it in for a oil cange the next week. Dealer said it should be no problem.

oil is oil - it wont really make a difference..
just keep in mind that when you mix weights like that there is no telling (for sure) exactly what you'd call your mixture..
it's fine as long as its temporary, just try to run a straightforward (by this i mean not mixed with a different) weight all the time..
