Add Coolant warning going crazy, please help
I fill up the coolant tank every month or so ( I think that's too often) because the warning always goes off, and rightly so, because when I look at the coolant level, it's always low.
But now everytime I start the engine, the "add coolant" warning will go on and last for a longggg time. I check the level, still on the full line. What should I do? The buzzing does go off after a while, but it drives me nuts. I can't even hear my Tupac pumping....
It's gotten cold in Boston lately. My engine doesn't turn as crisp and quick as it has. I'm thinking I am going to change my spark plugs soon.
Any advice?> Thank you very much, everybody!

Yes, make sure there is no air in the system. I belive the easiest way to do this is to remove the rad cap and start the motor (double check that procedure before you do it). Make sure none of your hoses are leaking. Have your coolant checked for exhaust contamination. If you coolant is fouled, start saving your nickles and dimes, it's time for a reuild.

You have a leak. Look harder and you will find it.

nah my NA was eating coolant and when we ripped the motor down we saw that the coolant seals were gone and it was just time for a rebuild. Face the facts. If you rebuild now why the irons are still good it will save you big bucks. Pop the motor and send it to Kevin landers at Rotary Ressurection and have him rebuild and get a stage 3 street port.

Well, If your really really really lucky it's a bad coolant sensor on the radiator top.
The reason why it stays on for a long time on start up is because there is air in the system and it takes longer in cold climates to warm up and expand to touch the sensor.
Definitely look for external leaks. If you blow white smoke out your exhaust then you have a bad coolant seal near the exhaust/combustion area of the housing.
Another way to check would be take your radiator cap off and turn over the engine. If you see lots of bubbles or a geyser coming out then you have a bad coolant seal around the intake/combustion area of the housing.
Another easy fix would be replace your radiator cap. Mine killed my engine because it failed in the open position while driving. The symptoms are that your overflow bottle will be maxed out in coolant and can run out into the ground.(usually after you leave the car and come back to see a puddle)

Thanks!...followup questions haha
Thanks for the replies everyone.
After I test the FC with all the things you guys suggested, I'll come back. If anything is wrong, and it needs heavy duty work, can I just send it to any mechanic? ( not rotary specialized, right?)
Digi7ech, if it's a bad coolant sensor on the radiator top, what can I do?
Yea, I think I really do replace the coolant a lot. If it's just a leak, will a patch up fix the buzzing noise of " ADD COOLANT" ?
If there's a coolant leak, should I see liquid puddles under my car? She never leaks... she doesn't leak anything! What is going on?

Either you are losing fluid internally
(bad seals= rebuild motor)
or
You have a small external leak.
Pay a lot of attention to:
1) the heater hose on the left side of the block (it goes back to the firewall)
2) Your thermostat housing - that one drove me crazy for a long time. Look for a small crack.
3) the back side of your water pump pulley
4) a bad radiator cap
I suggest you park the car after a good drive, open the hood and use a kleenex to check for small leaks.
If it gets any fluid at all on it you found a leak.

yes, you have air in there. here is what you do.
unplug the wire from the coolant sensor.
unscrew it.
open the cap and fill it till it starts to pour out of the sensor hole.
put the sensor back in.
fill it till it overflows.
this should fix it.
if it comes back after a while then you have a leak or a bad coolant seal.

those guys are right, tho..u need to find out why u are losing coolant. if its only a little then its ok..even if your coolant eals are bad..you can drive for a long time with bad coolant seals. but u still should know. heres what ya do. get a big white peice of paper and spread it under your car, caovering the whole engine and radiator system. then start the car and let it get all the way warmed up. then shut it off anf do away...after it has cooled all the way back down, look for coolant on the paper. if there isnt any then chances are u have a bad coolant seal. if there is try to figure out where it dripped from.
