Add Coolant??

Add Coolant??
Any help would be appreciated on this one. My 87 RX-7, every time I turn it on, the add coolant warning goes off and it beeps for a while before it stops. High revving temporarily stops it and only in some time after the car has been running does it stop. I haven't been able to figure out the cause of this and I'm hoping this site will help me out with it. Thanks!!

If your coolant light is coming on.....then yes, you need to add coolant. And don't high rev it, just turn it off and add coolant. By you revving it high, you risk wasting the rest of the coolant, thus, having your car overheating alot quicker....I could be wrong on this. Someone chime and say whether i'm wrong or right.

Which bit of "ADD COOLANT" didn't you get...
The warning is telling you the radiator level is low. Don't just check the overflow reservior, you need to remove the radiator cap (with the engine cold) and make sure it's full.

the With The Engine Cold part is important. Trust me I forgot that bit one day when removing the coolant lines to the thermo wax. HOT COOLANT EVERYWHERE!!!! but lesson well learned.

So let me tell you about almost taking a shower in hot transmisison oil......... Or maybe just suggest that when you are taking your transmission fill plug off you make sure your vehicle is jacked up so the fill plug is a little higher then normal.

add coolant to the car, thing is, I've had the same problem, and I did add coolant, and it would still go off like crazy. The sensor that's making your light go off is on top of the radiator. It's grounded, so if the level in the radiator ever dips just a lil' the sensor goes off. If you add coolant and it's still going off it could be either air in the system or it could be that you have a coolant seal leak, like what I had.
If the coolant seals are out, then it's basically an automatic rebuild. But hey, perfect time to get your engine ported.

I added coolant with a 1:1 ration with water but it still seems to be doing that. I don't know what to do about it. And the constant drone is starting to make me deaf.

There is another coolant fill spot, its on the neck of the water pump. Fill it with the radiator cap off. Once the radiator starts to overfill put that cap on and top off the neck of the water pump. also remember to put some water in your overflow tank

Are you doing this on a flat surface? If not, you're not gonna fill anything. You're not suppose to fill it directly into a radiator unless you have an S5, you fill it on the neck they provide you. Also, you might need to need to bleed the air out if you topped the coolant off without opening the air bleed valve.

I suggest you do more reading and studying on this forum, because you're gonna have a broken RX-7. I'm assuming this is a new car to you.
If not, your sensor could be on a fritz and just ordered another one through Mazdatrix or your Mazda dealer.
