Adapter for Cone filter...
Does anyone use the adapter for the cone filter? i just wanted to see how u liked the adapter before i go and buy one. Also where you bought it and for how much.
thx
thx
The ones on eBay are crap! They are just a flat plate with a hole in it that has a pipe attached to it. I know this sounds like all that it needs to be but the transition from round to square is non existent. There is a terrible amount of turbulence from those designs. The good ones have this transition.

i got k&n with adapter from ebay... i noticed the same problem w/ the adapter, so i took my dremel & carbide burrs to grind away some material to make the transition a little smoother. very small change, but it's still a difference.

just thought of something else! maybe i can grind away some metal from the AFM, around the opening. i'm not sure if this can be done, but i'll look... i'm pretty sure it's just excess metal (no electrical components), so it can be done.

I'm the only person that I know of that has ever 'ported' the afm. You can do very little around the opening. Not enough to make it worth the while. If you mess up it is a costly mistake. The ebay adapters should actually have material added to them in spots.
I did use epoxy and a bunch of grinding. Unless you have replaced the accordian style tube between the afm and the throttlebody you won't notice any difference. Even then it is very small.
Yep, I worked with hIGGI on developing those Zenki AFM adapters.  These are an extrapolation of the HKS unit, but they are built to handle proper 3" ID air filters.  The HKS ones are only 2.75", and you need to torque the clamp down pretty snugly to get it to seal nicely.  Yes, the insides are radiused to help smoother airflow.

I got an ebay filter + adapter for $10 and it works great. The adapter is plastic, but the circle shape smoothly transitions to the square, and it does the job nicely. For $10, you can't beat it.
