Actuation with Atmel microcontroller
Hey guys I was reading through one of the sticky posts and came accross one that used an Atmel controller for operating VDI and Aux ports. Has anybody else done this. The controller recommended is about $10 shipped although you need other devices and programming skills which would be no sweat in my case. It's kind of late so I'm about ready to hit the bed but I'm definatly thinking of going this route given the versatility and the pride of having to know how to design and program the system (even though it has been laid out by someone else already).
I don't know of anyone else who's done it yet, but if you have any questions, let me know. So far I'm only opening the VDI port, not the aux ports. You'd be blazing new ground if you went the aux route too. I think you might want to locate the solenoid away from the exhaust area and use something (a clever cable system?) to operate the aux ports remotely (solenoids get weak at high temperatures).
Also, if you do invest in the programmer (not that expensive anyway), you can use it to do the other two projects I linked to in that thread you're talking about as well.
edit: here's the link to the thread, my post is right after Aaron's introduction:
