ACT vs SPEC vs CM

last night i toasted the clutch racing a 350Z

time to go for a new clutch and PP

if i had deep pockets i'd go for a Exedy hyper.. but can't..

i see many threads about what clutch to get for their N/A's

but not for modded TII's

here's my requirements:

-Must handle abuse! (high rpm dumps, on street and drag streep with sticky rubber)

-quick shifts (if the tires chirp goin into 4th bonus)

-not break the stock TII tranny or driveline

-harsh engagement and heavy clutch pedal aren't that much of a concern.. although I will drive the car on the street.. but not generally in heavy traffic...my legs can handle it.. already i have a tiny steering wheel with no PS (on a PS rack) and a short shfiter with hella hard bushings...

-budget of around $350 or less

-must be compatible with Racing beat's lightwieght aluminum flywheel it's sitting next to me waiting for a clutch to mate to

it'll be running on a 20G powered S4 with all suporting mods (just missing a EMS before i can max it out) so around 350-400 HP to the wheels (dunno what kinda TQ that will translate to..)

I think that covers most of the questions,

so what do u think? SPEC stage 3 ACT 6/4 pick, CM dual friction etc etc...

i'd like to place my order soon

A dual friction disc is probably too light for your torque.
A 6-puck with a stout PP will do it.
You probably want a sprung disc to reduce the chance of breaking driveline parts.

Exedy and ACT are the same thing..................... (exedy pressure plates are painted purple.....)

I have an ACT Extreme Street Strip disc and pressure plate... It takes all the abuse I throw at it... It supposedly can handle like 460 ft/lbs of torque..

If you get a 6-puck... just make sure its a sprung hub.

Chirpin 4th with drag tires???? not happenin at 350HP!!!!!!!

What the hell is a 20G??????

I seocnd the 20g question. If you meant 20b then you should be bitching about the price of an exedy clutch.

I've not put one in yet, but I've heard spec clutches are freaking awesome. That will be my next clutch.

20b e-shaft and 13b everything else? never heard of it.

Also back to the clutch thing. I had a 6-puck and it got demolished driving in rush hour traffic. I ordered the street/strip disc and pp from racing beat but they were out of the disc so i am now running a rb street/strip pp and a act high performance street disc.

I personally have a act 6 puck unsprung with hd disk. I dont think it is hard to drive at all. Once you get use to it its fine. Now the first few times you will probably stall it, I know I did. It has also held up to everything I have thrown at it except for a second gear drop. Although I dont think many clutches would hold up to that anyway.

I dont have any experience with the centerforce clutches but I remember reading more bad than good about them.

I would just see which one of the two you could get a better deal on between the spec and act.

ACT stage III is about a $100 less then the ACT extreme... dunno if i'll get enough for the extra $100 to justify the cost...

that's why i wanna hear from other rotary owners

I would go with the ACT heavy duty street full-faced clutch kit.
ACT is built well, and it's the standard, period.
I think the full-faced organic disc is still good for 400 lb-ft - which is like 500hp on an 13BT.

If you can handle the harsher engagement, by all means go with the 6-puck copper disc; too many bitch about the harsh engagement, so I can't make a wholehearted endorsement on it.

There is NO stages(IE stage 1 or 2 or 3 ect.) to the ACT lineup, the measure by torque. I just picked myself up a Act extreme S/S with a SR motorsports FW. they also have a 4 puck and a 6 puck.
**EDIT**Reted just made my day by beating me to the ACT EX. S/S. three minutes late lol
