AC stopped working all of the sudden
This seems kinda strange posting this since so many people just ditch their AC, but i like mine.
today my AC all of the sudden stopped working. the center of the pulley on the compressor just stopped spinning. any easy way to fix this??
i have a couple compressors lying around and i can always take the pulley off of those but i was hoping there was a "quick and easy" fix....

The manual has a pretty detailed procedure on the clutch not kicking in. Check for continuity in the wire from the compressor, then check the voltage at the relays and if you still can't find the problem you have to jumper the refrigerant pressure switch wires. If your clutch engages then you are very low on freon or the pressure switch is bad. Only after that should you look to replacing the clutch. I actually went through this process 2 days ago, good luck.

the logicon works because when i het the AC button the rpms go up as if it were making up for the extra work. but no work is applied so it just revs higher for a sec
i will look in haynes.
thanks

Justin,
This may sound silly, but is the "cigar" fuse ok and in the right spot? Is the clock working? That's the fuse for the a/c. If the logicon works and the rpms jump when you turn the a/c on, check the wiring from cigar fuse to the main relays and the wire to the compressor itself. Check voltage at the red/yellow wire at the a/c relay.

ok i will check that. the clock hasnt worked since i got the car and i dont know about the cigarette lighter, i changed it out but i dont think it works. i never use it.
all of the other lights on the idiot panel work just not the clock. there seemed to be plenty of pressure in the system when i pressed the valve for a second.
which fuse is it by the way?? i dont have a panel that has them labeled
thanks

ok, it's the cigar fuse, 10A I believe that is for the a/c, clock and lighter. It is in the bottom row right by the 20A audio(??) one. There should be a blank right above it. I know cause I had it in the blank by mistake and thought everything was kaput.

Did you ever get around to starting the car, turning the a/c on and getting out and jumpering the electrical plug that goes to the drier????? If the freon has taken a dump, the pressure switch in the drier will not make the circuit to the compressor. Did you get around to just jumpering the compressor from the battery. Its only one wire on the compressor. Did the clutch pull in when you did that????
