About to yank the UIM on a N/A, any tips?
I'm getting all the stuff gathered to pull my UIM off for new injectors. I have everything marked up, and took a gazillion pictures, so I think I'm set. Is there anything I should know about. I hate being surprised.

omp lines add a nice touch to the engine bay how ever...plus you dont get messy at the gas station trying to put in the right amount of oil, then having to go inside and ask the asian clerk who barely understands english for paper towels.lol

Yea make sure you have some high temp gasket making gunk, it works great for seals. Use it on all your gaskets from the LIM-UIM and the UIM-DC if you plan to dissasemble that as well. You might as well decarb/degrease the setup while you have it off and your waiting for your injectors. If you don't have time, meh..

I got 'er ripped apart last night and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Out of the 29 connections I numbered and pulled off the UIM, only ~10 of them really needed to be. I didn't realize how much of that tubing just runs to another part of the UIM, lol.
I love working on my FC though, out of all the cars I've owned, I actually feel compelled to rip stuff apart and fix 'er up. The only part I managed to break was the cotter pin for the OMP rod (small paper clip worked better ), and everything else came off like butter.
I replaced a couple of brittle vacuum lines, blew all the junk off the top of the engine, got the deposits off the UIM, replaced both sets of injectors, and used a new Mazda gasket for the UIM-LIM connection. The one that was on there was in pretty bad shape, and I found a few non-stock nuts and bolts on the assembly too, so I'm pretty sure it's been removed before and the numb-nuts that did it last didn't use a new gasket.
I snapped a couple of pics to make myself feel better :
All the junk off:
The fuel rails waiting to be molested:
And here's the new to the old injectors:
I had Cruzin Performance do the injectors, and the man is the biggity-bomb. I was really impressed with how clean they were, and the perform very well. The car no longer has a dip in power when you tap the gas, and absolutly no hesitations. Combined with the new calipers in back (so my rear brakes are no longer stuck on), the car feels like it's gained 20 HP and runs like a new car (well, except for the missing piece of y-pipe.)

Is that the original motor? I see an very nice and clean engine lifting bracket on the back of the engine... Nice new Alternator... You really should have changed or eliminated the FPD....
I always go to NAPA and get new FI hose... Not to be confused with low pressure fuel hose.

Oh... you should have checked the EGR valve as a source of a vacuum leak.. That and the double throttle control vacuum motor are notorious for leaking vacuum. (The internal diaphragms rot out)

I might replace the FI hose (it's still flexible and in good shape) when I do the FPD, but I had to get the car back together for an appointment the following morning, and taking it apart isn't that bad now that I know how it's done.
I can't wait to get my Turbo II, then I'll have a FC I can tear down and rebuild... the wife is going to hate me.
