Im about ot head off to college and 1st year and 2nd year students arnent allowed to to drive and park on campus since im dorming. I dont wanna sell my 7 so im planning to store it in the garage and possible move it around the block once every 1 or 2 weeks when i come home for weekend visits.

Anythign i should do to maintain the car? oe anythign i shoudl expect to do after the 2 or 3 years of garaging??

Should i do stuff like unhook the batery ??? (any other things i shoudl unhook or take off???)

Since you're going to drive it every week or two it really isn't a big deal. I used to drive mine on the weekends (to save gas). The only thing I can recommend would be a battery recharger. They offer those small ones that can plug-in a wall socket and trickle some juice back into the battery for you. Also invest in a car cover, trust me when it's time to drive her on the weekends you'll be happy you'll only need to wash her every 200 miles or so.....

If you're going to drive it every 1 or 2 weeks, I wouldn't do anything as far as storage is concerned. Just keep up on the oil changes every 3/4 months regardless of the mileage. You may want to keep a "trickle" charger on the battery though. I've "stored" mine for 4/5 months every year (winter) since 1989 with no problems as long as you run the car often.

Yeah I second the tricle charger. It's not designed to recharge a dead battery, it just maintains a good battery so you won't drastically shorten battery life by not running it.

Also, oil changes are SUPPOSE to be every 3000miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. I change the oil every 6 months on cars I store, but I look at the condition of the oil after the car warms up and that helps me know when it's time to change it.

Short starting the car and driving it around the block once every 1 or two weeks is one of the worst things you can do.

NO. You DON'T want to do that.

Either don't drive the car, or take it on good long hard highway runs. Doing short 10-15 minute runs (or just idling the car for a while) doesn't get the oil hot enough to boil out the water in it, and you end up with a lot of condensation in the oil, and in the rest of the engine. It's really, really bad for a car, and a lot worse than just letting it sit.

So, pick one. Either put it in storage properly for the time you're at school, or drive it hard (30-45 mins of highway driving) when you're home. I personally know which I'd do, but if you're inclined to put it in storage, you should be able to find some threads on that.

If you do decide to put it in storage, the simplest method is to get it hot, change the oil, change the coolant (after it cools), pull the battery, throw a car cover on it, and go. It should be fine. Other things you can do, if you're so inclined, would be to raise the tire pressure to 50-55psi (to prevent flat spots), or better yet, put the car up on jackstands. You could also use engine fogger oil to liberally coat the insides of the engine with oil to protect it, block the exhaust off so nothing makes a nest in it, and assorted other things (search).

In the rust belt states, if you leave the E-brake on, corrosion will freeze it in position. Good luck moving it then. Here on the left coast, that isn't much of a problem.
