your lucky, i know mine has a rev limiter becasue i was doing donuts in the snow and i stuffed it without paying attention to the tach, when i looked down my foot was to the floor and the tach was bouncing right around 7500.....on a similar note someone told me that these cars have speed limiter on them. they said the limiter kicks in at 135, i have had my car at 135 and nothing seemed to happen...135 is hairy on a stock suspension setup going over a bridge with all of the metal connectors in the road might i add

No mechanical or electrical speed limiter on ANY RX-7. I believe the 87-88 TII's had a limiter at or around 8k....my engine won't rev past 8k so I just assume. 89-91 N/A(w/the 8k redline) had a limiter at 8600rpms.

Be careful what you say...
The Japan models all had mandatory speed limiters at 180kph or about 103mph.

Luckily these can be easily disabled by removing one little screw from the back of the instrument cluster!
Still only got a 180km/h speedo though...

me and my friend bridge ported his car that is a 89 t2. it isn't going to be much good if we can't get above 8600 rpm. cuz that is what it stops at now.

The series 4 cars just had the buzzer, there was not a electronic shut down like a Toyota or Honda.

The buzzer should kick in around 7500 RPM + or - 200 RPM. However the engine will not die.

As Ted mentioned the speed limiter was on the JDM models (as it is on all JDM cars).

Don't know on the series 5 cars.

That won't matter becuase the rev limiter is built into the stock ECU, and you won't be running any bridgeport off that...

No Rev Limiter on a Series 4? Well, I don't know what you call it, but on my 87 TII I cannot rev above 8600 rpm no matter what I do. And it doesn't gradually run out either. In first gear, if I'm not watching the tach, I will fly to 8600 in a matter of seconds, then hit a stone wall (the engine does not shut off, it suddenly becomes powerless until I let off the throttle). No, I'm not ignoring the buzzer, it doesn't work in my car. Need a guage panel, but it's not high on my priorities list. Anyway, I'm not sure if it is done by fuel or ignition or both, but the 8600 limit does exist on a series 4!

my 87 t2 and my friends 87 t2 can go above that. my friend has a stage 3 port and takes it to 9000 when racing or on th dyno this is done by a aftermarket tach. So I know it acurate. I guess this rev limiter breaks easy or is only in some cars. All 5 of my rx7's don't have revlimiters I have had: 3 87t2,1 87N/a,1 88 t1,1 10th ann. every one I have tested for a rev limiter. this makes me think that only the series 5 have it but maybe some series 4 do I don't know now. But does anyone know how to get rid of it???

I have an '86 turbo conversion. I very rarely rev it above 6500 revs because I am just a wuss and can't afford anything to go wrong. However, the other day I wrung out first gear for all it was worth (the auto stays in gear when used manually) and although there was noone around, I heard someone honk their horn at me! Was I going mad? No, it was the 'hhhhhmmmooouuggghhh' alert sound at 7400 or so. Forgot all about that! Gave me a bit of a laugh at how surprised I was for a while!

my 87 TII has a rev limit... it used to be 7800 rpm, but now with the lighter flywheel, sometimes it can help but hit 8, but when i'm driving, if i take it all the way to 7800-8000 rpm, it just sits there, won't go any faster... i want to remove it, but i guess i gotta get a new ecu to do that

My S5 ******* cuts fuel to the rear rotor at 8600 RPMs

No wonder it's always the rear to go ******* first.

(NO i dont take my car up there, but once or twice the accelerater got jambed )
