AAHHH! Its Doesn't Work!!!! Help!?!

I was told that a 1988 water pump housing and pump would work on my 1990 GTU. Well I go to put it on and there is this little black plastic cap on the oil metering pump that is going to keep me from hooking my radiator to the pump housing. Is there any way I can get around this with out haveing to get a new housing? I only have so much money. This is my only car so I need it fixed ASAP! This way I can go to work. Other than that I can't work. Please help.?.

Why'd you get rid of the housing in the first place?&nbsp I believe the water pumps are the same, but the housings are not...

Neither the housings or the waterpumps are the same. The waterpump has different bolt pattern and slightly differnet design, and the housing is made to accomodate this. Also the shaft ont he pump which the fan goes on is a different diameter than the older ones, so you can use your fan with te older pump.

I should have an 89-91 pump and housing Ill sell you for $75. IF you want me to check for sur or are interested email me at hypntyz@charter.net

The S4 pumps have a slightly different bolt pattern than S5. the S5 had an extra bolt at the bottom, and the existing one on the bottom was moved over a little. the 2 bolts on the S5 are on either side of the csingle bolt on the S4. How do I know? Discount Auto fucked me. they sold me an S4 pump and then wouldnt take it back.

re read the post where you asked (looked back 4 pages and didn't see it). it was stated a few times that s4 and s5 are different. but turbo and N/A are the same for that series.

Actually the turbo wter PUMPS and NA water PUMPS are identica...but the housings are not, there is a water tap on turbo housings. Just a FYI, IM sure many of us knew that, but there was a time I had to find that out the hard way

I'd figure they would all fit, since the main 4(?) long studs are all in the same place (did I get that right?).&nbsp Hell, we swap FC (turbo) and FD water pump housings and studs before...
