'92 Gxl
Hi, I have a '87 rx (Which everyone here has helped me with, ty) and now a guy at my work has a '92 that he can' get to pass smog. He is not interested cause he wants to get a new car, but I am wondering if I buy it can get it to smog? I remember a friend telling me that if I were to go get a brand new catalytic converter, it would pass for about the next 2 weeks, if it only failed emmissions. (I live in California BTW).
This is something I am interested in getting but I don't want to buy myself a head ache. Any input is appreciated.

I think this is the last year of the FC's, unless its one of he first FD's. But either way I haven found out exactly what it's failing smog on. I just wanted to know if there are common things that will make it not pass even if it is driving well. I am going to try to find out more about it today.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Probably a 91, since 91 was the last year that the FC coupe was available.
You would need to find out what he was not passing. Are the HC too high? or the CO? or the NO or CO2.
Or is it just a visual thing.
And most car dealers will take a trade in, without doing or requiring a smog check.
