'91 Supra or my '86 RX-7?

There's a '91 Supra Turbo for sale here for $4,500, and he said he'd take my '86 RX-7 GXL for a trade, at my offer. I want to know if it'd be worth the money, the Supra has 165,000 miles on it and the e-brake doesn't work. Turbo works fine and engine runs well, everything in the bay looks good, the interior is torn up, new paint, no rust. My RX-7 has minor minor rust, all features working, N/A. How much could I ask for my 7 and would it be worth it to get the Supra?

Those engines are known to have a big weakness with head gaskets. When I worked at Toyota we would get at least one every or every other week with that problem.

if it was in good shape I'd probbaly do it. your car isn't worth more then 2k or so. so you'd win in a trade

The question you have to ask is why does this guy want to trade. If he's not currently an RX-7 person, why would he ditch his car of higher market value?

i think in a way the supra is a better buy cuz i tihnk it's aorund 225hp or something and it'll giv eu better gas millage than a rx7 as i've heard. or maybe the same. but as for maintianance, they r both exp to fix. but i'll take snurb's side and wonder y he wants a 86 rx for a 91 supra.... must be something majorly wrong with it cuz of the price difference, unless he doesn't know the actual value of both of the cars

well consider this... it will be WAY faster. (232hp) and it actually has torque. but yeah its a little suspicious, because in $$$ the book value on the supra is probbably close to double.

ask if you can take his car for an inspection b4 you buy it. You can usually go to Midas or a local auto shop and pay like 50 bucks for a full inspection. Who knows, might be worth the money.

No no, not an even trade, and he is an RX-7 person, he loves them, he owns a few. He'd probably take my car and 2k in cash for the trade. How much faster is the Supra? And how much is the Supra worth? Also how well would it hold up at that high of mileage?

I just decided not to get it because of the mileage and the lead-sled-ness. But thanks for the info, I never regret learning.

the long crank shafts on those enines don't like to stay strait w/milage, I've replaced a few of 'em in my day, if you plan on modifying for more power expect a rebuild and possible crank replacement or at least work being done on it
