'89 upper intake conversion

There used to be a link to a page where a guy put an '89 style upper intake on his '87 or whatever RX-7. The last time I checked the link I had for this, the link didn't work. Does that page still exist?

Damn, I had that link but I can't find it now. It was like woodoo.tripod.com or something, but I forget now. Anyway, if you're looking to do this mod [which I did], I know everything about it and I know why I chose NOT to do it. So if you have any questions just ask me.

Okay, I found out that you need the upper intake manifold, the VDI chamber, and the lower intake, or it won't bolt up correctly at all. Then, you need an RPM switch to activate the solenoid in the VDI chamber [to open/close the valve appropriately]. You need to also need the 89-91 fuel rails, which don't quite fit correctly on the block on an 86-88, so a lot of custom bending/fabrication is required. There's a lot more issues that come up as you're doing the swap as well, and apparently an experienced technician/mechanic should be able to do the whole job in 35-40 hours, so if you aren't doing it yourself, labour costs are going to be terrible. Anyway, in my opinion it's much more complicated than one would think, and it's one hell of a job. I decided not to do it because you need so many different parts [I can't remember, but there were more things from an 89-91 that you need], and it's a huge ammount of work and custom fabrication.

This is where it used to be. But I remember the guy saying that all you needed was the upper intake, and it would bolt up. But you had to do a few things to make it fit. You had to remove some metal from the rear end housing, and you had to use the correct upper and lower fuel rails, also you had to modify the vacuum solenoid rack and remove the EGR solonoid and use it to operate the VDI along with a RPM activated switch.

yea thats jeff wozniak's site, i talk to him sometimes, he shut down the page for his college semester or somethin, ill ask him when he will get it back up, but yes some modification is required to fit the 89 upper intake to the 86-88 lower intake, the bolts are about 1/4" off, not too far, but it would be easier with the upper and lower together.

Agant D, do you have both of the 89-91 fuel rails? You will need them. If not, I have them.

Yeah, convince him to put it back up. Also, using the '89 lower intake would change the port actuation and ACV and such, I am not sure if it would easily work that way. Especially getting the ACV to work correctly.
