89 NA Vert high idle issue/ stall on startup

When starting my car cold it will pretty much instantly die unless I give it a little bit of throttle. It will stay running after that at around a 1500rpm idle which is normal when cold. However after getting the car fully up to temp, the idle will not go lower except when I push the throttle out on the throttle body itself. I can get it to go down and idle around 750 but as soon as I give it any bit of throttle again it’s stuck back at 1500 and refusing to go lower. I’m assuming it’s an issue with my thermowax but don’t know how to verify or how to fix.

It looks like I’m missing a line on one of these nipples, can someone tell me what’s supposed to be here and if that can be my issue?

After doing some research, the previous owner had deleted the rats nest which can apparently cause idle issues. I guess it’s time to try and replace it

You will want to replace the rats nest if you want to get it to idle correctly. Most of the functions related to the rats nest are for your idle air. The last picture you posted is a thermowax valve. The valve stays open when the engine is cold and it lets the engine vacuum keep the secondary throttle plates shut. When it warms up, it closes off the engine vacuum and opens the secondary throttle diaphragm to atmospheric air so the secondary plates can open. This is a safety so that your engine is kept at lower throttle until the intake air thermosensor is warmed up and can correctly measure intake air temps for correct fuel mixing. This valve being partially hooked up, along with the vacuum delete is probably the cause of most of your issues.
