89' 13B engine problems!?!

Hey have only had the car a couple of days & knew she had problems but this is a completely new engine & car to me so am not to clued up on it, so any help or advide would be great, thanks !

-Getting a very strong smell of feul from in the car & out of the exhaust's (she is drinking a fair bit of feul too)?

-Engine dies when i turn on the rear window heater, even if i am driving along!?

-Rev's on idle seem to bounce off bout 800rpm for some time, also a slight lumpy tickover (cleaned up all of the ignition system which helped but still a little lumpy)?

-How do i remove the rear bucket seat's?

-How can i remove the 7k rev beeper/alarm?

Many thanks???

When is the last time the car has had a full and complete tuneup? New plugs, wires, filters, check all sensors, etc.?

If a full tuneup doesn't fix it, then look at having the injectors professionally serviced. High mileage injectors tend to leak and drip.

So you can be driving around with the engine at 3K, and it will instantly die when the window defogger is turned on?

Fix all vacuum leaks, adjust TPS as per instructions in the FSM.

-How do i remove the rear bucket seat's?
Check the FSM for details.

The Factory Service Manual can be found in the FAQ For FC thread. It contains all this information and more, and is an essential tool for any sort of service work that needs to be performed on these cars.

Additionally, the Haynes service manual for the 1986 thru 1991 RX-7 (both turbo and NA) can be found at most local auto parts stores or purchased from any good bookstore (ISBN number 1 56392 007 7). It is only about $25 and is a great quick reference for things like this. Not only does it contain most of the information in the FSM condensed into an easy to read format, but it includes full wiring diagrams as well.

These manuals will answer 99% of service related questions for the car and if you intend to do your own repair work, you will need at least one of them. Preferably both, since the FSM is a free download.

-How can i remove the 7k rev beeper/alarm?

Why?

That buzzer is also the master alert for things like low coolant and low oil. Disabling it will disable those warnings as well.

Thanks for getting back to me, just in the process of giving the car a good service & ignition system a freshen which is helping.

Now have a Haynes on order so waiting for that to pop thru the door any minute.
In ref to the defogger, it is not quite liket that but can be driving around at any speed & go to switch the defogger on..... second or too later the power will slowly drop & eventrully cut out really strange, maybe an earthing problem??

In ref to the buzzer, oh is it sorry am new to these cars, do you know where it is located as wouldn't mind toning it down a little?

Thanks James!

TheN/A's always smell rich. The only way to change this is a standalone ecu or a Air fuel computer...but this really isnt a smart idea...cuz thne they run too lean and can be catrastrofic toyour engine.

Go get your alternator checked...

If you remove the seats toss them my way \

and your soundnt really mess with the beeper thing...its there for a reason and if you take it out it could drain your battery and screw things up...You shouldnt be hitting 7 grand all the time so you should be good

Sadly need the seats as i tend to ve giving lifts here n there but love to loose the extra weight, need to get them out for a good clean.

Not planning to remove it now as wasn't aware of its importance just wanna cover it up abit to make it quiter.

Any idea if the gen3 fuel pump will fit in my gen2, also i notice people have been removng there air pumps what gains & loose do you get from this, anyone thanks James??

Most auto parts stores can provide this service.

Too much fuel pump for your car.

If you remove the air pump, you must also remove the cats and run a dual sheeve pulley on the alternator. If you have a S5 NA then you must also figure out how to actuate your aux ports and VDI. In short, no gains.

Thanks for your reply. I believe mind is a S5 (how would i know for sure) so sod the air pump removal & will get my alternator cheacked soon.

In ref to the feul pump does that mean a walbro 255LPH pump will be no good for me either, as i am in desperate need of a fuel pump for my fc!?!

Why if you are complainig about the fuel smell would you hop up the power and size of the fuel pump. This would do nothing and if it did something it would make it smell worse.

IF IT ISNT BROKE DONT FIX IT

86-88 Series 4 (S4) Body trim is different. More 80's looking.
89-91 Series 5 (S5) More updated body and taillights, interior.

In your case. You have a S5

a walbro fuel pump will pump WAY too much fuel then what is needed.
If your in need of a new fuel pump, just get a stock one.

The NA does not have a fuel pump resistor. Rewire is not necessary.
